    Swaping to a JDM H22

For all the people who swapped to this engine did you have to tune it for it to run/idle right? Whats the most common problem(s) you guys came accross when swapping to this engine?

If you're going to use a P13 (h22 prelude ecu), then you're not gonna need tuning for it to idle or perform.

Here's a fantastic source of info for swapping engines. (link)

Your question is kinda broad. There's not really any huge problems that you'll encounter, it's more like a bunch of small annoyances. I think the best thing you can do is read swap journals, read the swap faq, read cp[mike]'s f22 removal guide, and go from there.

Once you get started with the swap, then you'd be able to ask more specific and answerable questions. Good luck with it.

Yes a lot of small annoyances for sure, make sure you get the right harness obd1 if its an h22a and the wiring diagram for it. Also you might want to swap the tensioner from auto to manual, its more reliable, let me know if you need the part #'s for that. The one problem I did have was the tranny mount didnt fit perfectly so my friend drilled and tapped into the side of the tranny. It was more time consuming and a pain in the ass because of course he didnt want to actually tap into the tranny itself. Other than that it's a direct swap, but you might want to get some new parts while your at it (clutch, flywheel, gaskets ect ect).

Well you're going to need the P13 with the h22a, unless you chip and tune a p28 or p06

The P13 will most likely run fairly rich if you have an aftermarket intake and exhaust (which is likely... the engine doesn't really work with stock stuff). Chipping and tuning a P28 will get you better gas mileage and performance. The P13 works well, though.

Yeah, like mozzandherb was saying, new parts are always nice. Might as well get new belts, new seals, and new gaskets while the engine is still out. Also, its impossible to know the history of the old belts/seals/gaskets.

Load levelers are reaaaally helpful. I guess it would be possible to do it without a load leveler, but I'm really glad I used one.

When you're jacking the f22 out of the bay and when you're lowering the h22 into the bay, go slowly. Just go a couple of inches and check everything. I thought I was doing a good job but I still managed to break something when I was taking the f22 out.

When you're buying the h22, you'll want to check for dents in the oil pan, the condition of the throttle position sensor (on the back of the throttle body), and the condition of the IAB box under the intake manifold. Although you could just grab the TPS off your f22 and JB weld the IAB box up, its more convenient if you can get an h22 with those parts intact.

Oh and give yourself time to complete the swap. Mine took waay longer than I would have liked, but it got done in the end. Stupid stuff happens when you go quickly.

i had some prob. wit my h22 swap- my intakemanifold gasket had a leak and when i first started the engine it would just free rev! took me awhile to figure that one out... oh ya and my tps was broken in half, no iab box, and jdm fuel rail connects on the other side of usdm cars(reuse the f22 fuel rail). other than that everything went smoothly. just need to remember to expect somthing to go wrong-because if it dosn't now, it will later goodluck
