I posted this in the wrong section before! BTW I own a 1990 Accord EX 5speed, CB7s are great cars.
Hey everyone. I just bought a 1992 Prelude that had a F22B DOHC non-vtec engine swap.
I think I may have bought a lemon, only time will tell.
First problem: Car will not start when it is cold outside ie: 0-20F, it just cranks and does not seem to catch.. After it warms up a bit outside, I can get it to start, but have to keep the gas pedal pinned and rev it up to 4K or else it will die. After it warms up enough to not die, the RPM's bounce from 1000-1500, like my CB7 used to do, but I do not know where the white plastic thing to adjust it is on this engine (FITV?).
Second problem: The rad looks really old, I popped off the cap and I can see lots of corrosion on the stuff inside, and it was quite low on fluid. Is it possible that from all my cranking (which was a lot) that I was sucking up some coolant? Coolant wasnt a nice colour and wasn't clear. Just looked super old and dirty from the brutal rad on this car.
I was wondering if the rad off my CB7 will fit on the 4th gen Prelude, cause my rad is almost new, and I have a guy who will swap both rads for $125 cash.
Third problem: When I'm cranking the engine when it's cold and not starting, sometimes I hear a thunk as it tries to catch and then dies.
I need advice. I posted on this site cause I have been helped out really well for my 1990 Accord EX.
If the rad is really corroded, does that mean that the inside of my engine is also bad like that? What can I do to fix this?
One good thing: When the car does run, it runs beautifully and pulls real hard. When it's running, you would never guess that it has cold start problems or a bad rad. With the head work and all other engine work, this thing keeps on gaining power until close to 7k RPM (redline normally is 6350). It's the perfect engine for me, solid and torquey like my F22A4, but when the butterfly valves open up it almost feels like VTEC and keeps on gaining power past redline (I've driven a 4th gen H22 Lude that wasnt close to as nice as this engine). I think it may even have an h22 LSD, not sure yet, all I know that is near redline in third gear it has some healthy torque steer coming out.
The previous owner said that he had the head port and polished, changed the valves, changed the pistons and cam gears, light underdrive pulleys etc. I tend to believe him, he was honest about a bunch of things and really wanted the car to go to a Honda enthusiast.
I know the car has: Light flywheel (8lbs), Stage 1 Exedy clutch, F22B with a red top head, neuspeed header, lowered with really sweet shocks and springs, rock solid ball joints, possible bad wheel bearing, etc...
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks,
