Hondafan just sent me that link.

It is an interesting read about the J series, but it is specifically geared toward the J30A1, even though the newer ones are still very similar.
8 second 0-60 in the sedans, lol the v6 in my moms odessey is around 7 seconds

well that z28 fell through so next weekend its off to look for some quarter panels( damn salt), prep car for a nice cobalt blue pearl, and check out the prices on a J.

too bad the RWD trannies wouldnt work because that would make a killer cb7

itll be even quicker in a cb since they only weigh around 2800-3000 casue the newer cars weight several hundred pounds more

That article was in reference to the 1998-2002 which wasn't very quick.

They weighed almost 3500lbs for a fully loaded EX V6, and had 200hp/195 TQ with a 6250RPM redline.

Also, keep in mind that those are Honda's numbers, and typically what they publish is a little conservative, so people won't be disappointed. Most OEMs do that.

Realistically, they were mid to high 7's and usually ran a low 16 high 15 in the 1/4.

The J30A4/J30A5 in the new Accords is a whole different monster.

        240HP/211lb/ft and a 5 speed tranny. They will MURDER a 1998-2002 Accord.

Some bone stock auto guys have run high 14's in them stock. Most of the 6 speeds are down into the low 14's, and some are in the high 13's.

That is in a car that is 300-500lbs more than ours.

Also, those numbers are a little misleading, because in all honestly the 1998-2002 Accord V6 wasn't at all impressive until it hit about 90MPH.

So other than the pure joy of discussing this idea, does anyone think anybody is going to do this Not to rain on everyone's parade, its just that this would be quite an undertaking (both mechanically and financially) and I don't think any of us have a few thousand laying around to put into a backyard project car. I would love to see this happen, but realistically what do you all think the chances are. Sorry if that's depressing, I guess I just had to ask

I would do it just to do it, but like most real people, I have other financial priorities at the moment.

If someone beats me to it, then they beat me to it.

i might do it because i either need to rebuild m f22 or purcahse a different engine. depending on how much a j block and tranny will cost me and is readily avaliable. depending basically on how much it will cost me in parts to complete will basically determine on if i do in fact try this out.

oohh if your going to make one would it be possible to make me one also and how much would you want for one?

so i was doing some research on ebay and found that some j30s run for about 500-700 but that might just be the block but still that would make entire engine a bit more expensive than an H. so if i can find one around my area, i guess ill have to figure out how much some custom springs will cost also. hopefully i can get some money from parents as im a senior in hs to do this, and a good summer job and hopefully this will be a possibility, just have to learn how to use my dad MIG welder and other good stuff

anyone else thinking of doing this or is it just me and lokuputha?

oh yea i have just one question, most newer accords dont have the sliding uper seatbelt do they? so we would either need to wire in the controller or fabricate in normal seatbelts correct? ill try and think of other things that must be done also

although a minor detail..... wouldn't you need the cluster from a v6 so the tach signal was correct, and the tach would function properly?

OMG! HOLY SHIT! This would be a monster! Since wrecking my CB, ive gotten a 3.0 VE powered maxima 5 speed and im saving up for the VQ. but my swap would pale in comparison to this swap. Good luck guys Gotta see this done. Doesnt Jackson Racing make a supercharger for those motors.......

                        No they don't.

But Comptech made one for the TL until they went out of business.

The only thing required to get it to fit the Accord was a modified radiator end tank.

The J30A4 also puts down a little over 300WHP with a mild tune and 4.5PSI supercharger boost.

just a suggestion, but either build up your F22A, swap in an H22A, or just turbo and/or nitrous your stock motor.

V6s are nice and all, but did you realize that a V6 in a front wheel drive will just add more weight and make the car over-steer even more? The 4th gen Accord is made for a 4cyl, I would stick with that personally, unless you're building a twin-turbo V6 drag monster, even then I think you could do better by just building up a 4cyl.

Have you ever driven a Pontiac Fiero? I had one, an '86 Fiero SE with the V6 and the 4spd on the floor. The V6 was great, but the extra weight made it crazy at handling, the best solution would have been to mount a turbo 4cyl into the chassis. If it works for an American car I would definitely suggest it for a Japanese car.

The whole 4 cylinder thing has been done. Also, if you read the thread in its entirety, you will notice that the weight issue is discussed.

Also, the J series isn't that much heavier than an F22. It might not even be heavier than an H22.

Imagine the J30 and the H22 weight the same. Which would you rather have?

One thing you are neglecting is the materials and design used in construction.

GM makes big huge thick Cast Iron blocks.

Honda uses open deck reinforced aluminum blocks.

                              HUGE weight difference.

well this may just be my opinion, but unless it's a straight-six I'm not very impressed by it. V6 engines are hard to maintain, hard to work on, and don't have the power-band of a straight-block engine. I'd go straight-block all the way, so unless you can cram a 280ZX engine in your Accord I'd steer clear, but once again that's just a personal opinion based on ease of use, ease of maintenance, and all around performance.
