The bay is physically big enough, at least length x width wise.
I haven't read every single post on here yet, but if the 5th gen engine bay is larger than the 4th gens and the nose was stretched to accomodate a V-6, how could a j series swap work well in a 4th gen?
Also the first gen CL is a 5th gen chassis that does run a J series motor. How tight is the engine bay in there, and is it the size of the stretched 5th gen bay or the same as the standard 5th gen?
Would the addition of a 6 cyl make the 4th gen very nose heavy? I guess it doesn't matter if you are dragging, but what about daily driving? Maybe aftermarket lowering springs for a 3.0 CL would work too?
That said, I'm all for it. Always nice to see interesting swaps that work well.
the only thing is custom lines....mounts...electrical...hmm
Yeah, if anyone wants to tackle this (along with the already mentioned OBDII to OBDI stuff) go right ahead. Like everyone else has said, it's mainly for props b/c there aren't many accord out there with this stuff. The guys that are smart enough to do it should. The rest of us will be content with the h22, f20, f22b
no other details or pictures besides the first three.
j32a2, 6spd, lsd. just a couple generations too recent
easyer said than done, mike but then again, everything is possible
lisa is long gone, but sophie is here!
i got a good feeling about this one
im going to have to

My statement was made in reference to the 1998-2002 engine bay. The CB7 measures within a fraction of an inch in all directions.
They stretched the 5th gen Accord bay by 20-30MM for cooling reasons, not because the engine wouldn't fit.
Also, keep in mind that the 5th gen Accord V6 had a C27 in it which had a 90 degree bank angle. The J30 is more compact with a 60 degree bank angle, and a more space efficient valvetrain design.

So are first gen CL's known to be good handling cars vs. their 4 cyl counter parts? How much more does a J series engine weigh vs. an F/H series engine? The last thing a CB7 needs is to be more nose heavy.
well im too damn lazy to read all that shit, but what started all this j-series talk in a k20 thread???
and what the hell is everyone debating??? whether a k or a j would be better in an accord? and on top of that, if a j-series is even possible in an accord???
just like every other random thread starting with "can you put a (insert engine code from random car) into an accord?" bottomline, with enough money you can do anything.
i, for one, would prefer a k20r over any j. good power, good torque, 6spd as well... and its a helluva lot lighter than a 3.2ltr v6. why do you think alot of people frown upon a h22 into a hatch... yes, great power-to-weight, BUT its way nose heavy.
and about scott's h22 beating a j32, maybe, maybe not. but he has a fully built motor. you give a j32 an i/h/e setup and itll be making around 230whp/190-200tq. put that power into an accord chassis, and i think the h22 will have a run for its money.
but now i dont even know what the fuck im talkin about, so im done.

I am pretty sure the J series is heavier just due to the fact that it has more mass to it.
But I don't think it is actually a lot heavier. Without weighing one it is hard to say.
The CB7 doesn't feel terribly nose heavy if you set it up correctly.
With a J series, I am fairly sure that it could be made to handle pretty damn well.
Lets get Hasport on this V6 swap engine mounts...and AEM on a custom harness...and ummm...someone else on the driveshafts......i wish I had a house,,,with a garage....i would love to take this project on

Probably a moot point, but I'd have to side with the K series backers that it's a better choice for a more overall balanced car.
If you want all out speed, then the J series is the way to go. It might be easier since Honda already did the homework to mount a J series motor in a 5th gen chassis.

Without knowing the weight of both, it is impossible to say that one would make a more balanced car than the other.
The J series isn't as heavy as people think. The new ones even have a magnesium intake manifold.
If there is a 50lb difference, then it would be easier to tweak the suspension a little bit and put up with the added torque, not to mention the head room a J series has for HP.
Also, there was no J series in the 5th gen (94-97) Accord. It was a C series. There is nothing similar about the 2 except the number of cylinders.

It got started because 2 kids were bickering about which would be better K or H.
So cp[mike] and I took it off topic a bit to let it cool down. Then the J series discussion continued.
And I would put my money on the J series.
268WHP doesn't require anything super special, and the torque curve is MUCH fatter.
It is just easier to ring more power out of a larger displacement.
