    is a 5 speed swap worth it

    lately i have really been wanting to do a 5 speed swap on my car. i hate driving an automatic. my question is, do you all think it would be worth doing? and how much work is it, or should i just get it installed professionally?

    getting it installed professionally is useless...theyll bullshit you..and quote you a high ass labor charge...either get a 5 spd car..or learn how to do the swap..or get someone from the forum to help you

              i've been thinking about this kind of swap, because i was offered a really good deal on a cb7, but it was auto. well, automatics are seen as being better to the average person, but for us tuners we like manual usually. an auto cb7 would fetch more money than if it was manual. the most logical thing to do is to just sell your car, and buy another cb7 but in manual. you'll probably sell your car for a pretty high price. take all the aftermarket parts off your cb7 then you can put them on your new cb7. that would be a better thing to do, because you will save a lot of money. if you're very attached to your car then it's a different story.

                well im only 17 so selling it and getting another one is out of the question. i also plan on keeping it for quite a while.

                  If you can R&R the transmission...the rest is easy...you have to route the shifter cables install the clutch pedal, master cyl., lines, and slave cyl. and some other things I can't remember...I bought a CB7 that was born with a 5 spd. so I didn't have to worry about it. I did read about it somewhere....it's time consuming and it would be a good idea to have a donor car before you start. The cool thing about these cars is that all the mounting brackets for the pedals and the reservoir are already there...you dont have to fab up anything. good luck.

                    It’s not that difficult. All the information needed to do the swap is here. Some things I would recommend if you decide to do the swap…

                    Pick up a haynes manual from autozone. Its like twenty bucks plus tax… Helps a lot!

                    (Something I wish I knew when I was looking for parts.) Try to find a transmission from a EX accord. If I remember correctly, the first digits are H2U5 on the transmission. This allows you to use a fifth generation accord/4g Lude mount instead of having to weld. I used one from a LX and had to remove the auto bracket and weld the manual one on there. H series/h23-no welding needed. Idk about the h22 transmission. I will get back to you on that.

                    You have a 93 Accord, so get a manual cluster from a 93.
                    Same model/year/trim... I have a 1990, and got a manual cluster from a 92-93 and the damn plugs didn’t fit.

                    Solder all connections.

                    It would be WAY easier if you remove the engine/auto transmission all at once.

                    If you decide do the swap with the engine still in, have someone help you.
                    Installing the transmission by myself at 3:00AM wasn't a lot of fun.

                    Those are some of the main problems I ran into. Other than that, it was pretty easy and a great learning experience.

                    I cant imagine selling my car just to get a 5-speed one. That’s just a waste of time imo.

                      So what your saying is that if we go from a 4th gen auto- to a 4th gen man you need to weld, but it you go from a 4th gen auto - to a 5th gen man you do not need to weld?

                        not to discourage you. but i am in the process of doing a 5spd swap. i was doing good until today. getting that damn tranny back in ain't no joke. i may just have to get it towed and let a shop do that part. if so, at least i cut my cost in half by trying to do my own swap. i hear the pedals are the hardest, i don't agree. that damn tranny is kicking my ass. the jack i use to start with wasn't doing the trick so i had to inch under the tranny and lift it manually as if i was bench pressing. clearing the shift arm, the releasing bearing are the main problems. once you clear that getting the main shaft to go into the clutch is whats killing me. and its still not acutally in.

                          To get the tranny back in, you have to lower the engine a bit... loosen the mounts and support the engine under the oil pan with a jack (and something to pad it... cpmike and I used a good book). Once the engine is low enough to allow the transmission to clear the side, it'll go right in place. The splines of the input shaft probably won't be perfect, so get someone to turn the crank pulley slowly counter-clockwise while you push it in. It should slide right in then. It took me and Mikey 3 hours of benchpressing and cursing to learn that... then we got his mother out to turn the crank. It was back on in 5 minutes.

                            If you use a transmission from a ex/4th Generation accord, you will not have to weld because you can use a 5th generation accord/4g Lude mount. However, if you use a transmission from a lx/dx you WILL have to weld. cpmike explains it all here...
