    F20a Vs. H23a

Ok i was going over specs between the 2 and was going to do a h23a1 head swap but i was looking into the f20a off a jdm prelude si. is there a significant difference between the 2. I know already that both are boostable, DOHC NON VTEC, and comp are still pretty low(but thats not really a concern since im doing a head swap)

is either a better platform to go off of, also any preferences and experience with either(this means u wed3k and wikkeddv16)

see now going further into it:

    a h23 cfm rating is 50 versus a f20a is also 50

so that would mean they flow just the same, so any head would be ideal, all that matters is which one is more readly available(which should be the h23 due to being USDM)

dont you mean the F22B Dohc cause i think the F20A Dohc cam out of our car in japan correct me if im wrong the only difference power wise is the torque the H23 has a little more but you wont find one with as low miles as a jdm engine and i think its easier to put a H23a1 Vtec head on an H23 block but not sure ive only had an F22B and was pretty happy with it

H23A1 did not come in vtec even though there was a VTEC h23 used in soem wagon if I remember. Yes both are the same I just looked at the spec. I would just get the h23a1 because of its availability and yea.

he said nothing about it being vtec

and if you are referring to the f22b then it is basically the same thing as the h23 except the h23 is 2.3 obviously but that wouldn’t matter in a head swap situation

so get whatever one you find

keep in mind headswaps arent simple

Do they make a LSD H23 tranny or do you have to get JDM H22 Tranny to get an LSD? and is a H23 tranny or H22 tranny better for boost?
Cause my brother is making about 250 to the front wheels and he can break loose in almost all 5 gears so LSD would be that way to go right just a quick question

F tranny would be best for boost but out of those two I would get the H23 trans. H23 doesnt have LSD but you can throw in a quaife or obx depending on your budget.

Yes, h23 motors are still expensive compared to a JDM f22B DOHC motor. Last time i checked, a f22b DOHC costs around $600-$800USD shipped.

So, in essence, if you are looking to boost, cost effecient wise that is, f22b is a wise choice.

If it blows up? get another f22B. They are still nicely available.

                        Edit: $645 + shipping, $800ish?

so are the f22b readily available for head swaps, cause im still see'n h23 heads go for 200 or more; or maybe i'll scrap the hybrid n jus get the whole motor- h23a1 or f22b

                            just get the whole motor.

look on eBay for makoto or something like that. I got my f22b from him for 730 shipped.

unless you can find EVERYTHING you need for a head swap under 300, it really isn't worth it, imo at least.

fuck all the frankenstein bullshit. If you want power just get an h22 for turbo keep your stock f22 and boost it the end.
