Best solution for the distributor issue when swapping to JDM H22?

Quoting Fizzbob - "the distributor is different because our accords have an external coil and the jdm ludes have an internal coil.....there are a few ways around this though, and it's easy too........."

What are the work arounds and what parts would be involved in each route? Please feel free to comment as to what you did..Maybe we can make this a sticky post?

    Thanks!

Actually, the 90-1 Accords are internal coil, the 92-3s are external. I don't see this as much of an issue.... Just plug one in and be done with it. It doesn't matter where the coil is.

Just tap the Black-Yellow and Yellow wire on the external ignition coil plug together and you now have a internal coil setup.

I converted my JDM H22A to external coil. I have a few pictures of it if someone wants to see it. I have a Crane Cams FireBall coil and MSD SCI-L I didn't want to go to waste. I also used the USDM H22A's distributor cap. I saw a place that said to use my old distributor cap (1992 Accord LX) but two of the cylinders pots on the cap are moved over slightly which means they are timed differently so it could run but not to full potential. The USDM H22A cap is pretty much idental to the JDM it just has the external pot for the coils plug wire.

So if a 90 accord is internal and the JDM H22 is internal, will I still need to change it to external???

You don't need to, but you can. Just keep it simple.

I want to know if the wires are all the same for the distributor and the sensors and the other things that require electrical connection. you guys answered all of my quesions on this forum except for this one. please let me know. I plan on getting the motor fom hmotorsonline. please reply. also the rides on this site are awesome. mine is coming along and will be posted soon!

Yes you con use your original harness you will just have to add to it. The distributors wiring is the same with one expection. If you have an external coil Accord then you will have to modify the harness slightly (nothing big). If you have an internal coil Accord then it's plug and play.

Oh yeah if you get a 1996 or newer engine you will have somethings that will need changing. If you get a 1992-1995 you're in great shape.

Um... No... They use the same EXACT DISTRIBUTOR CAP... The ONLY difference is that the rotor on the newer H22 dist. has a hole so it can be screwed on to the shaft. This, in turn, makes it the same dist. as the 94-97 non-VTEC Accords. The caps' contacts are all in the same place on the inside, even if the brand you are using has the external connections in a different place.

what exactly do I have to add? I know I have to run a wire for vtec but what else? are all of the sensors the same on both of the motors? if a sensor is bad can I change it from my old motor to my new motor? I don't want to start the motor swap and be without a vehicle. I want to do it over a weekend.

I only use original Honda distributor caps and rotors. I laid down my 1992 LX (external coil) distributor cap next to my JDM H22A distributor cap and two cylinders are slightly more shifted in the clockwise direction on the JDM H22A cap then on my F22A1's. It's only about 2 degress but it's still an ignition timing difference. Now the USDM H22A's and JDM H22A's are in the same place and that's what I bought. You can argue that all you want but I've been very meticulous about everything concerning this swap and am doing all my own research not just taking someones word for it.

Okay... I just think you are making a big deal out of something that isn't... Would you mind posting pics of the two side by side? Preferably from the bottom, so we can see the contacts.
