    Auto to Manual ECU

After doing some research, this question was kinda messed up. Some people said I didn't need a new ecu, and that I could use my automatic ecu as long as I disconnected the tcu, and then anotehr post I saw later said I needed to get a manual ecu. can someone please clarify? thanks

What ECU are you planning to use?

That wasnt an answer it was a question.

What ecu are you going to use?

In short it usually doesnt matter, since there really is no difference.
No longer working on the cb. To much time and money has been put into it. Check my for sale thread where the whole car will be parted out.

don't hook up the tcu. at least - all the p39's i get a hold of are auto, and i test them in my manual and they work fine - i have seen the same with the pt3 (stock ecu) when friends have done tranny conversions

as far as i know, at least with OBD1 ecu's - you should be fine by just not hooking in the tcu - YES, inside the ecu there are components that would talk to the tranny, but by not hooking in a tcu, your car will assume manual. because a manual tranny has everything to with cables and nothing to do with computers - plus all your sensors (like speed) talk to your ecu and not your tcu -- does that make sense?

It will sometimes set the CEL off of r a TCU communication error. Let us know what kind of ECU you want to use. Some modifications can be done to convert it to a manual ECU.

            Like the PT3's for example:

            Here's auto

            and here's manual

They look almost identical but there is a difference. Auto has the E170 transistor and R85 resistor and the resistor in the #1 spot next to the 66911 chip. Manual does not have E170 or R85 and has the resistor in the #4 spot next to the 66911 chip. You can physically modify the board and use an manual bin file instead of auto and it will act just like a manual with no chance of TCU error codes. This is just one example so let us know what ECU you plan on using.
