Check Oil pressure yet? When you replaced your oil pan did you check your oil pickup? Sometimes that can cause it if its bent bad but thats a rare occasion but you never know.

two wires on soleniod, one is grounded, the other goes to the ecu. with the one wire grounded, take the one that goes to the ecu and instead touch it to the positive terminal of battery, if it clicks, good soleniod, theres something else wrong.

hmm.. maybe ill give that a try tomorrow.. after i clean it out and it still doesnt work.. ill see if the solenoid is bad by doing this.. should the car be on? or just be turned to accessories? hmm.. i'll see

I have the same problem and I can't figure it out either.

I have heard that the ECU has a "limp mode" rev limiter set to 6500.

When you figure yours out, I will figure mine out. Exact same symptoms.

yeah i still cant figure mines out.. its pissin me off.. i hate redlining at 6500 and not hitting vtec.. it sucks.. i took it to my friend at honda.. couldnt figure it out.. he said hes gonna read more on it and get back to me.. hopefully he can fix it.. if not.. i dont kno what else is wrong .. what are all the components that effect vtec?? thats what he needs to know.. so he can check it.. but if you figure yours out.. let me know.. and ill do the same if i figure mines out

btw.. my oil pressure is fine..

do you know anyone that can let you try out their vtec ecu? even a stock p72(gsr), p13, or chipped p28 will do.

uhm.. my friend has a hatch with a gsr motor.. i think he has the p72.. is it gonna work properly? is there anything else that could be affecting VTEC from not working??

possibly also check coolant temp sensor as well. if it is reading low it can cause your vtec to not engage without a check engine light.

I also want to correct some misinformation that people are spreading in th is thread. THe oil pan capactiy of the f22a#, f22b#, and the 92-96 H series oil pans is identical. As a matter of fact they are all the exact same pan, if they were not the same Honda would not have given them all the same part number.

my coolant temp sensor is fine.. what else could cause vtec not to work without a CEL?? today i found a plug without anything connected to it.. i believe it was the secondary intake solenoid.. cuz when i look at the ECU.. there was nothing plugged into pin A17.. should that have thrown a CEL? cuz it didnt.. i plugged it up today.. still no vtec..

so i tried fixing vtec again today.. still nothing.. but then i unplugged my knock sensor to see if i would get a CEL.. and i didnt.. was i supposed to get a CEL when idling? or is my ECU bad?! im guessing thats why VTEC isnt working.. i got a shitty ecu.. im gonna try and call up my friend with a h22.. his ecu should be working.. if it works with his.. then my ECU is shit..

Yup prob the ecu. if you unplug any sensors it should instantly pop a CEL so test some other sensors out.

the knock sensor will not detect as bad right at start up. you must start the engine and hold it for at least 10 seconds at between 3k rpm and 4k rpm to see if it is detecting it or not.
