    swapping manual from auto...ecu?

    hey..
    i know i've been the advocate for wanting to keep my auto. but i may be coming across a pretty sweet deal on a parts car with a stick...meaning...all the parts are there for the taking..master, lines, pedals...etc. but i think his car is a 91 and i don't know if it's an EX either but i heard that i have to use a manual computer. mine being an A6 and his being either an A1 or A4...would i be losing any power if i switched to his computer?? also i heard that you can change an auto ecu to a manual ecu by switching or jumping a wire...do i have to go into the ecu or just splice and connect wires?

    someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it'll be fine since the ECU and TCU are 2 separate units. Meaning that if you do the manual conversion you would only be using his TCU.

      A manual doesn't require a computer, thats why it's manual - YOU are the tranny's brain, telling it when and where to shift...

      ECU and TCU are separate - And all years, all trannies should have a PT3 ECU - just dont plug in a TCU and your car assumes manual - You can keep your ECU - it will run the other stuff fine.

      as for performance differences - You're gonna get better with a4/ a6 intake and exhaust manifolds - so you're better off with your current engine

        hmmm this is for the F series right? cuz isnt it with the H22a engine the TCU is integrated into the ECU for the H? thats what i was told! so you would need to get a P13 auto ECU...sorry this is a bit

          so i don't need to change the ECU to a manual? just unplug the TCU? that's good to know. i really gotta talk to the guy and see if he's willing to sell.
