a h22 swap is in the range of $3000.00-$4500.00,my friend got a h22 put in his cb7 and the motor and labor was only $3500.00,he went to a shop in new hampshire, the motor had 35k miles and hes had no problems yet.

Yeah, that's about right. You can get an H22A longblock (just the motor, no tranny, ECU, or any other extras) for about $1200 from a reputable source (www.hmotorsonline.com). You can get the whole swap for $2200, or a full Type S swap (220hp) for $4300.

Installation prices can cover quite a range. If you know what you're doing, you can do it yourself for free. If not you would need to find a good shop. I found a shop with experienced Honda guys, who said they had done swaps before. They still got lost doing it, and the whole thing took 2 weeks and cost me $1749. Quite a jump from their original estimate of $500-$1000! If you have an engine installed, be sure you can afford twice the highest estimated amount, be sure you go to a mechanic who knows exactly what he's getting into, AND be sure YOU know as much as possible (like wiring, fuel delivery, etc). There will be things you can learn on these boards that your mechanic won't know.
If you can get a set price, do it. If a mechanic says he'll install it for you for $700, jump on it! And be sure to get it in writing!

***edit*** I just read the part about you possibly getting labor for free... Very nice! Just don't make any enemies, since the job isn't quite as easy as people make it out to be. There are some tricky parts that can seem impossible if you don't know what to do.

Damn... Hopefully there's nothing wrong mechanically!
Also, the Type S motor has less torque than the regular JDM H22, and it has higher compression as well. I prefer the regular one myself... And it's soooo much cheaper!

depends on where you go. if you do it yourself your looking at 2000 to 4000 for the parts. If you go to a shop, better be safe and have another 2000 available for labor.

no offense there deever, but you went to some shady shop. when i had my work done, they told me everything before hand... and eventhough random things popped up, they didnt charge me more because they quoted me a price to get the job done. and they did what was necessary to do so. one of the big things that came up was the tranny mount. since i went from a/t to manual i needed a new one. they custom fabricated one and didnt charge me a penny extra. good thing for them. becuaseof their great service, they now have a customer for life.

btw, i only paid 1100 for installation and tranny conversion.

Yeah, my guys were really cool, but they charged me an hourly rate... even when the guy was sitting there with his thumb up his ass trying to figure out how to use the Prelude wiring harness... They could probably get it done for well under $1000 now, but since this was the first time they did it, they had no idea what they were doing. I'm mad that I wasn't enough of a jerk to tell them I wasn't paying over $1000... I felt bad that I asked them to do such a difficult job.

its not that hard you could use a cherrypicker then take out the axles then unplug the harness to the motor then loosen all the lines to the motor like the radiator and fuel filter unloosen the shifter cables unbolt the mounts and yank that shit out on the other hand gettin the h22 in thats a different story altogether. YOu have to make sure you dont mash a sensor easier said than done with literally next to no clearance i watched it done it was a ripoff to me i could have done the shit myself well you live and you learn i most certainly have.
