I have a DC exhaust and it's true 2.25" piping (58mm)... what seems to be the standard is 60mm (2.375") as far as most pre fabbed catbacks go...
Anyways... since the addition of a kamikaze header with a 2.5" collector I've come to the conclusion that the 2.25" test pipe and 2.25" exhaust are holding me back...a bottleneck... it's robbing my mid at least... and this is on an F20A DOHC...
I ran it without the test pipe when I first put it on...so header only... and it was much quicker IMO... loud as all hell but quicker... not much of a loss in tq either... and as you would imagine the mid/high end was wicked...
So I think I'm going to be getting a new exhaust with 2.5" piping or maybe a pre fab catback with the standard 60mm pipes...but a 2.5: test pipe for sure... no more 2.25" piping.. I take back all the good things I ever said about it... It's good for a street only car as it maintains low end tq/power but on any car that tracks or races... go at least 60mm...RIP Lifsatrip7

2.5" is technically better than 2.25". Like Fizz and Zigen said, 2.25" will give you a little more low end at the expense of high end. I have a 2.5" crush bent setup with a 2 year old standard cat (installed at the same time). The power is nice, and it doesn't feel sluggish on the low end. I've never driven a 2.25" equipped H22 car, so I couldn't say how it compares.
If you plan on spending some money on mods, and doing any sort of racing, I say go 2.5". It will allow the motor to perform as it should.

Originally posted by accordtunerxits 2.25".. and i also agree that 2.5" piping has proven more overall HP gain.. but the problem is that its hard finding a 2.5" brand name aftermarket exhaust system. most likely you will need to have it custom fabricated.. but you won't get the benefit of the nicely resonated apexi system.. which I personally will sacrifice a few HP for. but thats me.
