Auto to 5 Speed Swap. Can I do it?

I want to buy a friend's automatic h22a cb7 but am unsure if I will be able to accomplish a 5 speed swap.

Can someone enlighten me? I think it's hard, but is it really that hard? Or is it simply just a step by step procedure?

Once I get all the parts I need, should everything go smooth like butter? I plan on using the ESP conversion mount kit.

Also, what's the cheapest H22 transmission(not cheap, but the lowest priced)? I know there are a couple, ones with the LSD and some don't have it. I don't need LSD, just want an H22 tranny.

Yes you can, with money, almost anything can be done.

I wouldnt say smooth like butter, there will always be some kind of hiccup or unforeseen obstacle but refer to the link above and you should be in decent shape or at least ready to tackle this conversion. Also i hope you have deep pockets.

A word of advice, when you remove the flexplate for the automatic tranny, replace the rear main seal behind there. If you don't, then you'll find yourself taking your tranny back off and replacing it somewhere in the future. Basically spend a little more time and money now to save yourself a ton of money and a headache later.

Can't comment on this, i used the H2U5 from the USDM EX which i got from a local member after his dad made me clean out the garage. Actually got it at a steal too for only 40 bucks and it shifts like a mix of astroglyde and butter.

The answer for this question is the same as it will be for any subjective question. Who knows what your skill level is, what tools you have access to, your working area, your budget and the time you need this completed? There's a DIY on here that shows you what needs to be done so read that and determine for yourself.

The cheapest transmissions will be M2A4s from JDM OBD1 Preludes that had H22As. The M2F4 from the USDM H22A1 Prelude would work but will likely have high miles.

I'm closing this because only you can answer the first question.

Also, expect the ESP mount to take a month at least if you're buying new.
