    F22b6 Odessey Engine in 1990 accord with power steering

    Not really a performance swap but for a money saver it can be done relatively simple, but there are a few hiccups that you will run into along the way.



    This can be used as a guide for any 94 up application, lets start with the stuff everone all ready knows...

    The transmission will bolt to the f22b's, the passenger mount and rear both mount to the trans, the front will bolt your b1/b2/b6, what ever, but the f22a engine side bracket and mount must be used. Youll find all the timing components are the same as the f22a, all data from work has confirmed matching numbers for all parts. The 2.3 blocks do have a different rear balance shaft and timing belt. The b's outer upper timing cover must be trimmed to fit over the a's mount bracket. You can use either a/c, alternator bracket. But to keep your power steering and original pump some fabrication is nessasary. The bottom bolt hole needs to be notched so the altenator bracket can bolt all the way on, this is best done using a cutoff wheel and a benchvise. next you notice you now have a ugly arm that used to bolt to the a's head, cut it off like this....





    Now the stock pump can be used. The stock harness fits directly 90% of everything, things that dont connect are the Iacv, this wire must be extended to the back of the manifold, the f22b egr valve has a different connector but the f22a one will fit with no issues. Use the valve cover ventilation pipe works from the F22a, this will allow you to fit the stock air box in like factory.



    If a f22b6 intake manifold is used the fuel regulator is in the rite place for the fuel return, the fuel inlet is still on the wrong side though and you still have to extend your fuel line. Use caution here and dont half way do this step. I use air hose connectors with tapers on them that pull from both ways, is the hold 150psi of air 70psi of fuel pressure shouldnt be a problem.

    The f22a throttle body will not fit the f22b intake, so use the b's TB. If the B6 is used you must swap the A's throttle plate and rotor into the B's TB housing, be sure to assemble correctly, TPS must be right.

    Use any B1/B2 exhaust manifold to get it under the car, the upper and lower is needed here to get you under the engine to the mounting points on the back of the block. Refer to a exhaust shop to weld up the rest. The B2 manifold has no clearance issues at all.



    The 3 hoses that come from the firewall box, need to be extended I ran 2 to the back of the 3 B ports and the purge valve on the fire wall to the other rear port. The hose of the 3 for the map sensor i ran to one of the front intake port, heres the thing though to reduce manifold pressure through the port use the nipple from the f22a throttle body to connect the extend map hose. Its easy to knock out of the TB.

    I used the F22b crankshaft pulley, with the F22a belts with no issues.....

    Thats it, this can be applied for a vtec swap or non vtec swap, in our case we did it to save a customer money since we had the engine laying around, that and i wanted to do it. Our car was a 1990 so we didnt have a itermidiate shft issue since it has the long drivers axle.....

    While this guide won't be useful to me and my situation, I do applaud you for taking pictures and explaining things thoroughly and using sentences everyone can understand. Many members on this forum are in this same position where they need a moving car and aren't picky about the motor. The fact of the matter is that these slightly newer F22Bs have fewer miles on them on average and make great worthwhile replacements for the non performance-minded enthusiasts. Nice job on the contribution.

      Np while my post count remains low i still follow this forum and have watched it grow since 05 when i joined, but have been frequent here since 03 when obtaining my first honda, a 1992 Accord lx, im sure this will be helpful to many, gonna be doin my 2.3 swap soon and will have full write up on that as well.....

        I'm looking forward to that one. That is a budget swap that I think would be a nice little upgrade over the F22A. And while I haven't driven an F23A attached to a CB7 transmission personally, I think that should make for a nice highway cruiser with the torque coming on sooner.

          The bottom end of the f22b6 could be used as a replacement for an f22ax? In the same manner an f22b2 bottom end can be mated to the f22ax head correct?

          If so that would give me more options to try and find a good low mileage bottom end if I need it, which would be awsome.

            FWIW the owner of this F22b6 equipped CB7 was so happy with how the car ran he had the exhaust on it redone.

                  I'm just giving you a hard time. I've got an OEM rebuild I'm in the middle of now and then an F20B/F22A I'll be working on when I finally go pick the head up. So no time for me for F23A builds. I'd just like to see it done and driven so that I can hear some driver feedback on it.

                    I know this is ancient, bump and rep for the OP!
                    I have a F22B6 now, and your thread was SO HELPFUL.

                    One thing I have to add- Do NOT attempt this swap with a short block.

                    It MUST come with all the engine accessories and brackets. Your Ax brackets WILL NOT fit without MAJOR fabrication.

                    I know, because OBDweldingwerks (i.e. my BF) did all the fab work, to make it work- because it HAD to- and to be truthful it would have been worth it to find those brackets and accessories in the JY.
                    (Which could be a possibility in the near future.)

                    BUT

                    This is a FANTASTIC swap. Torque all day, especially since these only came AT, and mine got hooked up to my OEM MT. Bolted right on, and seems to love it. 144k miles young!

                      Wanted to dump a few more facts here about the F22B6. These do not come w/ a windage tray but you can add the F22A6 tray and oil pickup. The B6 also comes w/ the 4B camshaft, the same camshaft found in the F22A6.
