    Engine swap, tranny problem?

I just want to ensure my tranny is still good

When i still had the f22a6 running ( poorly but running none the less ) it would be very hard to get into any gear, you would need to push hard to have it pop in. It felt like you were going to break it

when the engine was off it was fine and easy

could this be caused by some dumbass kid slapping the old motor back in without caring how well it went back in?

Im guessing maybe hydraulics would cause this? Just looking for some input before i attach this thing to a new engine.

    5 speed

Its kind of hard to say without seeing it but what kind of shape was the clutch and the associated master/slave cylinder in? With any of those parts going bad or air in the system, the clutch may not be fully engaged making it hard to shift.

I had the same problem when I had air in my lines. It would be fine when it's not running but hard to shift (especially after it was warmed up) when driving.

Well the engine was kind of slapped back together quickly, the kid was going to give me back the car with the blown engine inside it so he put it back in

so my thoughts were maybe the clutch was now bleed right, but im not sure if that can cause a problem such as this.

I can for sure say that air in the lines or a bad mater/slave will cause the symptoms you have. It COULD also be a bad pressure plate or something but it's usually the hydraulic side that's the issue.

Alright im going to lean twords what you are saying

the slave cylinder also has a ripped boot on it so that needs to be replaced as well

How did the clutch pedal pressure feel? I could see a pressure plate/warped clutch disk doing this, too. Hard to say.

Have you drained the oil out of the tranny yet? If not, see how much comes out.

If you replace the slave cylinder replace the master as well. Bleeding these things can be a bitch, make sure the fluid is clean in the system. If the cltch was toasted youd get more slip than hard engagmemt, on the flip side if the pressure plate fingers are toast you can get the hard engagement. Start with the simple, bleed the hell out of the system and make sure the pedal adjustment is right. If thats a no go, master and slave and bleed it again. Finally, yank the tranny and do a full clutch kit while its out

Well can i check this alot easier with it off the car? Im taking the transmission out of the car. Im asking this before i put it back in to ensure i don't waste time reinstalling something bad

Inspect the fingers on the pressure plate for extreme wear, also check your shift fork, the fingers on the pressure plate should stick out above the metal surface if you were to lay it flat on the mounting surface. They should all be nearly within fractions of each other in height. If one is bent, or wear appears abnormal, toss it. Check and make sure your clutch disc is in good order ofcourse while the tranny is out. Make sure your throw out bearing is new.

like tresex said, also check your pedal adjustment.

Is that something that can go out of adjustment without ever being messed with?

not really with an OEM clutch
but it is something that depends on clutch/pressure plate combo.
I got an LSD (limited speed design) combo and had to adjust it greatly.

another consideration might be that he threw a shitty clutch in
when he put the shitty engine in. so its hard to distinguish for you.

Hmmm, i guess it will just wait untill this weekend. I'd rather check the other componets before i mess with something i don't know how to adjust properly
