    P28 vs P13

    Hello,

So i've search and could find much. Search here google and some tuner forums. My question is this.

I have a h22 waiting to be swapped. I need a knock sensor and an intake bypass solenoid. I've hear that if I use a p28 I can by pass those two sensors. How do you do that? is there a pinout diagram? and does the P28 have to be chipped to bypass them?

You can disable knock, egr, o2, and some other things with a p28 as with a p13 you can. By the time you purchase the things needed for the p13 to work awesome, you will have spent a LESS amount getting a p28 or preferably a P72 chipped. JDM engine zone sells auto p72s for 40 shipped. That board controls IABs and knock and is almost perfect for an H22a.

If you run anything but the stock ECU for the motor, it will need to be chipped AND tuned before even turning the key (unless you want to possibly destroy your new motor). I am a firm believer in getting the motor running on the stock ECU before going to a chipped ECU, but in the end it's all up to you. Argue this all you want, but this is how I do it and I haven't had any ECU related issues.

      I started with a P13, went to a chipped P28 (Hondata S300), then to a P72 (again, Hondata), and now I am back with a P13.

Thanks to both of you. After putting the money into this motor I don't want anything to happen to it. So I think I'll just go on and get the knock sensor and IAB box. I saw the knock on ebay for $25 and the IAB on majestichonda.com for the same. The guy that wants to sell the p28 doesn't have the facilities to tune it and I don't wanna take any chances here.

What happened to getting a stock H22a basemap and slapping it in the ecu and calling it a day?

That has never been the proper way to call it a day. A base map should not be relied upon for the long term if you have any sort of performance upgrades. They are really for getting an engine started and running prior to going to a tuner.

If all you have is a stock engine re-build. There is really no need to run a chipped ECU anyway. The stock P13 will obviously be all that you need. If there are performance upgrades then a chipped ECU would be the way to go.

Yeah all i have right now is thw p13. The reason i was looking into it is because i lost my jdm injectors, broke knock sensor and a nipple on the black box under the IM which i believe is the intake bypass solenoid. Well i ordered the injectors and the knock IAB are lined up for purchase next pay day. Hopefully the ps hose i saw is still there.

The P13 is designed to run that engine. The P28 is not, and must be tuned for YOUR engine. If you can't tune it, and you don't know anyone that can , then don't go that route. You might be able to find a map that's close enough not to do damage... but unless you know what you're doing (which means you could tune it yourself...) you won't know if it's good or bad until your motor is damaged.

My H22 is running on a basemap right now, pending a new o2 sensor (well, it hasn't been driven in 2.5 years... but the ECU has a basemap in it now.) Either that map bypassed the o2 sensor, or it just runs rich enough that the sensor isn't having a problem with it (it's definitely richer than my custom tune.) Still, when I was driving on that basemap, I drove easy.
