    H22 Block and F22A1 Head

    Im so going to get flammed
    I have the original heart to my Coupe (140K F22A1) as of right now, its just sitting here rusting away. Really its sad.
    The egr valve is on my 90 4 door, so the cyl #4 is full of water for atleast a few months.
    My tarp apparently ripped

    ddcb7 had his H22A4 shred his timeing belt at like 6K and well, we assume the head is toast.
    Now is it pretty much the same as the F23/22 with H22 head except reversed?

    So far Im thinking....
    Press out the H22's water pump sprocket and replace it with the F22's
    Swap the F22 crankshaft sproket onto the H22
    Use existing H22 tensioning systems, use F22 timing belt
    H22 lower timing cover, F22 upper
    F22 Headgasket
    Use the OEM knock sensor with a P14

    What should we do about the oil regulator on the top of the block?
    The H22 does without it, but the F22 has it and it drops right in.

    Now as you know this is not smog legal, but if the A4 is from 1997 I've heard the bearings are 50mm instead of 55.
    So what that would mean, is that we can swap the H22 internals into my old F22, then not mess with the tensioning or water pump.
    Then the motor retains the stock "look" however, its much more
    But after remembering the 85mm bore, im pretty much limited to F20B pistons, or pricey cutom pistons.

    So what you guys think?

    not only are you reducing the stroke, you still have the 85mm bore. it will be like a f20a.

    h22a4 main journals are not the same as f22. rebuild the h22 head and put together a h22. lmk if you need help.

      Ya, with the H22 crank in the F22, its turns it to a 2058 cc motor lol
      But with F20B pistons, the Compression would be 11.58
      1997 H22A4's have the 50mm mains like the F22, all the rest are 55mm
      I've now seen the difference.

      Were going to look at the block and head first before we continue.
      We might put the F22 crank in the H22
      If the H22 head is somehow rebuildable, we may just do that.

          Main Journal Diameter
          H22A4 = 55mm
          H22A4 = 50mm (1997 Only)
          H22A = 50mm
          H23A = 55mm
          H23A1 = 50mm
          F22 = 50mm
          F23 = 55mm
          F20B = 55mm

          So then, would a 97 A4 have floating wrist pins? Or pressed like the A1?
          This is all dependant on if ddcb7's H22 is a 97 lol

            well i cant argue with that. because i have no idea. lol

            i thought all h22a4s had 55mm mains.

            but i still dont belive you untill i see them on a mic.

              you'll have a high compression turd. put those pistons in the f22a.
