    h22 waterpump install problem

ok i was installing a new waterpump one my h22a, and when i was trying to torque done the bolts, they kept breaking. i went to home depot and found some just like it and tried it and broke another ( when they broke, there was part of the thread sticking out of the block so with some plyers i twisted em out) but now the problem is on one of them, it gets tighter and tighter then sorta loose and tighter and thighter again. i pulled it back out and had some metal rings ( from the block) around the bolts. its seems that im going to have to rethread it , but has anyone else had any problems like this at all? i mean it seems like the bolts cant be torques at 108 ft/lbs (according to haynes) does anyone have a clue why the bolts would break when they arent even torqued all the way??? and help would be great cuz this is really ruining my weekend. thanx

holy shit 108 ft lbs i highly doubt that especially since its an aluminum block, i thiink your over tightening them, its hould be around 40 ish max

most likely 108 in/lbs, they dont need to be very tight.

I would not recomend getting bolts from home depot to fix this problem. They may have to be a special grade bolt. Plus around the water pump it gets real hot. It does sound like you may have to rethread the hole try to chase it with a tap and die set. make sure it is the same thread and bolt size.

i should have sed starting torqueing them to 108 i was only just over 40 when i stopped torqueing them. im just going to try to rethread the hole because there were only like a couple messed up threads. thanks for the replies
