JDM H22 sniffer-beaters! (looking to pass smog tests in NJ...)

Ok, my smog inspection is coming up this Spring. I want to pass legally (and free) rather than paying some shady shop owner to push me through.

I've been talking to my friends about this, and the best we can come up with is using octane booster on 93 octane fuel (higher octane = cleaner burn) and possibly running the stock Accord ECU. Also (a bit more involved) I could possibly get a chipped P28 and hope someone can provice me with a chip that would have a passable fuel setup... I think that would require running dangerously lean though, not sure.

I HAVE read before somewhere on H-T that running very high octane (or alcohol) will allow a JDM engine to pass. I don't want to risk alcohol, so the octane booster is my choice.

Would the H22 run well enough with the stock F22A1 ECU? I still have my old ECU, so if that would help, it would be awesome! I would drive to the inspection station and swap it in a block down the road.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Anyone from NJ or CA with a JDM H22 knows what I'm going through!

I'm sure I'll pass running a USDM ECU. I'll let you know I know one guy here passed clean as a whistle, or maybe it was on another board, with a chipped P28.

If you can locate that guy with the P28, it would be great I should be getting my P28 for Christmas this year.

I think it was on HS. Go look through the DOHC forum. If he passed Cali I'm sure you can pass NJ.

Yeah, I'm sure... NJ is tough, but Cali is tougher!

if cali is tougher, you should have no problem at all. i had a "test only" smog this year, and i passed easily. the guy might have not known what he was looking at, or maybe he didnt care... but either way it worked out for me.

all i did was put a cat on. i kept my chipped p72 and apexi controller. and it passed fine.

Cool. I got a new cat when I got my exhaust system put on...

It's a shame that the P72 is like 3 times the cost of the P28! I can barely afford the P28 (same goes for anyone who might give it to me as a gift.) I also can't afford an apexi controller... Maybe someone will loan me those things when it's time to pass! (h22sparkle, help me out bro!)

DrLove'sKuDang, do you think the program you're running on the P72 would work on a P28, or would I need something different?

damn, i dont know man. i had a friend do all the tuning. maybe jose would know cause you got me stumped.

i think if you put the cat on, youll be happily suprised. i had my car tuned for performance purposes w/o a cat. i was expecting to put a cat on and have my car retuned and leaned out more. but i just went a had a pretest done, since it doesnt go on record if you fail, and i passed. just throw your cat on, if you didnt already, and have a pretest done. i was hella stressin out over it. i was even considering swapping a stock motor back in to get smogged. but like i said, i just got myself all worked up over nothing.

Yeah, I'll never run without a cat. It doesn't really restrict all that much airflow, so I'd rather do my best to NOT pollute the air. Jersey is already filthy (we have the highest rate of asthma among children due to the atmosphere).

Hopefully Jose will see this and help I know he's been really busy lately though. If I could run the stock F22A1 ECU (I forget the name of it ) that would be best... I won't try it without word from someone who really knows though.
