    v-tec head

this post might be somewhere else if it is please move it or delete it, if not can somebody please help. I was wanting to swap the vtec head onto my f22a4 block. what would need to be done and is it worth the time and the money? It shouldn't be that hard to swap but I have never met any one who has done this. Also will I see the improvement of vtec. I want more power and I have many bolt ons and a 55 shot.

got the motor for free and my f22a4 has about 220,000 miles on it and the f22b1 has only 80,000 miles so i want something a little more reliable. If I had to pay for it I would stay with the a4 but I am going to the other motor, but I am not just doing the head I am doing the whole swap. seems like just as much work to do the head so I might as well do the whole motor. has anyone heard of this swap done before? no just the head but I mean the whole block and all. maybe having a vtec that is made for the fuel economy is made for me because I have a lead foot. I am going for a little bit more speed because it still is my everyday driver. eventualy I will go the the h22 but for right now this works. like I said this is also going to be turboed. just something to have fun with.

the main reason why I am doing the swap is because I am going to boost and I want a motor with less miles on it so it doesn't have as hard as a time with a motor with a lot of miles on it. either motor I can sell it just all depends. maybe I might be able to sell both of my motors and get a h22 long block. what comes with the long block? what will i need to put it in right away? I will stay with the f22 tranny until I can afford it. that is a thought. I could also sell both of my t25 turbos and maybe have enough dough for the swap. for once I am thinking straight. thanks for the help.

hey man, I've ask questions like this. It kinda sucks when all people say is "get an h22". If your like me, you just want a cheap alternative.

I would say look for an f22 DOHC head. Its primarily a jdm engine, but it came to north america in some preludes. It'll make 160 hp and 148 torque as compared to the f22b1's 145hp and 147 torque.

It makes a very good engine to boost, low compression and no vtec. Without vtec you only have to tune the turbo to one cam profile.

                    Just another option,

Hey Krak and Burn (Hah! That's funny!) I'm with you guys. I don't think the H22 engine is all it's cracked up to be... I am currently building an F22B1 to drop in to my 91 Wagon. It's not that bad of a swap, and it's certainly less difficult than an H22 or F22B DOHC or H23. There is a BIG advantage jsut to having a newer engine, especially if you got it for free. I got mine for free, but it was a core too. I've had to repair most of the engine, but it's a learning experience too. Don't listen to the Nay sayers here. We are few, but we who build the F22A/B are here, and having fun doing it.
I would suggest, however, to stick with the whole b1 engine, and not just use the head with the old block.
