i would say by reading what you've said about putting it in park and it grinding that it's an axle popped out. its like you slam it in park before the car's stopped... like the tranny is grinding itself to slow down.
jack up the front end, spin 1 wheel... if the other one spins it's not an axle. If it doesn't spin then it could be either an axle or a blown differential. It could be as simple as swapping an axle instead of a tranny R&R...Comment

What you are describing is what mine did when I killed an axle. It never popped....it just EXPLODED in my driveway one day and raised a bunch of hell.Comment

Well I was turnin sharp into my driveway and boom shaka laka my speedo went crazy and my tranny make a shit load of racket. Just look up under the car and wiggle the axles around and see which one is MAJOR loose or broken. Like I said my tranny made the exact same noises yours is making and you should be able to replace that axle with a 32mm socket and 2 hours of your time.Comment
