    Tranny Swap

    My sister has a 91 Honda Accord, Automatic, stock...yeah I know...stock
But, she wants to swap her automatic to a manual and we're trying to figure out where to go and how much it would be. How much would it be to purchase all of the parts and the labor. Would it be worth it, or would it just be cheaper to buy a new used 91 accord with a manual 5spd? That would be around $4500 for a car, can someone please compare that price with the price of the labor and parts of replacing her tranny?

I had it done to my car. It cost $500 for all the parts to make it a manual.(tranny, clutch pedal assembly, etc....) The shop I took it to charged me around $650. The reason why it was $650 for labor is because I am really cool with the shop owners, and the swap is not hard at all. I think it was definitely worth it for me because I have a lot of money into my car, and by selling it I would lose money. So, in conclusion, I think it's worth it, and plus I won't have to make it a stick when I swap motors because it is already a manual.

You may want to do some research and decide what your future plans are with the car. Is it just going to be Manual conversion and thats it. OR is the Manual conversion just a start to a fully modded CB7. If you plan on doing anything with the engine, then I would wait to have the conversion done at the same time. The shop will already have the engine out and won't charge as much to run everything. Doing just a manual conversion alone will be a bit more expensive. As talked about earlier, the tranny will be the most expensive thing. The rest will depend on where you get it from. I got all the other stuff to include the lines and trim pieces for under 100 bucks today at a U-pull it place. Where as the inventory salvage yard wanted more than 250 for everything.

I would decide what your future plans for the car are before moving on.
