    F22 head options

My 90 4dr is having some problems, as some of you may already know. I plan on replacing the head within six months and was wondering if someone could tell me my options. Its a stock f22a4 and the f22a6 head is the same price. Will this fit on the a4 block? I seem to remeber that the blocks are the same. If not, will the a1 head fit, since its a lot cheaper and has slightly less power.

If you want to turn your A4 into an A6 you will need an A6 camshaft which has larger intake lobes....or just get the entire head since you need to replace it.

Then, you'll need the A6 ECU with intake manifold because it has the IAB (2ndary butterflies). You'll need to wire this up

The A4 and A6 exhaust headers are the same.

For the intake manifold, hit up a junkyard & for the ECU. You could use a A1 head since it's cheaper & get a A6 junkyard camshaft OR just use the A1 camshaft and send it out to Delta camshaft for a performance regrind..either 260 profile w/stock valvetrain....or 272, but you will need to upgrade ur valve springs. Regrind requires you to send in your camshaft & for like $90 they'll regrind it.

Call me crazy (or lazy), but couldn't i just swap in the a1 and make up for the power loss with aftermarket goodies? Maybe its better to stick with the OEM a4 afterall. Whats the pricing look like for the different heads? Some of them seem to be about as expensive as an new engine. If i'm gonna spend that much i might as well get a new F22a4 engine.

Fizzbob, i am looking for an a1 or a4 head. You got that a1 still? Would you sell me the head? How much? Supposedly i will need to change up the ecu/header/intake manifold. Can i simply bolt on the ones from my a4? I'm trying to avoid replacing the whole engine.

I figured. I'll keep looking for a head and keep your engine in mind. Thanks for the help.

you can also use the ( usdm ) f22b ( not sure if it's 1 or 2 ) vtec head. There's a how to on accordinglydone.com . Also remember there is more turbo manifolds and kits made for that head that retain the front mount ( if you were thinking about that).
