I have an accord tranny with 0.685 5th and 4.06 final drive. Lowest cruising tranny you can get bascially.

Unless u need a motor today I would hold out for an F20A. Though with your situation it sound like u should just get another F22. VTEC no VTEC u won't be making that much better gas mileage. We are talking 300ccs at most here.
If u wanna get better gas mileage, u need to let ur engine flow better and up the compression. But then u are spending money and time u will never get back from 2-3 extra mpg. Maybe it's time to get a Civic.

Lasty, I dont want a civic. I paid $250 for my accord and that's what I am working with.

The F23A1 should net me a couple mpg vs a F22 because it has effecient vtec, it will be much newer, lower miles, and a much more modern ECU. (ULEV ECU's have some extra advanced 32 bit processors) The F23A4 at a local junk yard is $400 and has 100k miles on it. That's really what i'd pay for a GOOD F22A1/4 and it would probably have more miles. I have to buy an ecu either way because I'm converting to 5-spd. So there's no extra cost there. 3 mpg actually makes a decent amount of difference in money you'd spend per year driving 20k miles and gas at $4+/gallon.

My H23A1 swap is done because of a cracked block and low mileage good condition F22's are hard to come by these days. Not so with 6th gen F23's.
The only thing I'm worried about really it getting the ecu to run all the interior items?

but this is all a mute point as I am keeping the vehicle OBD1 now...no conversion harness needed.

well even though you're not looking to mod for " performance" you could mod for " efficiency". You all know; coil on plug ignition system with some msd caps, help the engine flow better with a good intake/header, something to really monitor and tune ( in car) the air/fuel ratio, mod the radiator cooling/thermostat to be a little cooler than stock, and something called the Singh Grooves

And there is A LOT!! of info on how to make your engine/chassis more fuel efficient and lots of other ideas.
