        Acutally you are wrong.

Nobody in this thread has said anything about how "fast" VTEC was. They merely said it was fun. And it is. I have had fun driving 3HP Briggs and Stratton go carts that wouldn't do over 20MPH. "Fun" is not necessarily linked to "fast."

Also, "muscle car" guys make fun of us because of all of the people who put a 6" open fart can on their 70HP stock Civic and then try to race everyone because they think it is fast. There is quite a large number of muscle car guys that have been put in their place by slow VTEC powered cars.

I will agree, if you want fast in a straight line, then a boosted 572 or something equivalent would be the way to go. But good luck mortgaging the house to pay for the gas, and when you stop and really consider what you are comparing, it really isn't that sad for the import guys.

I agree. I have never really had too much trouble. Sometimes, but it is amazing how much further you can get, regardless which car you drive, when you aren't a pimply faced teenage douchebag that burns out through the parking lot, etc.

very true. I think I even persuaded my stepfather, in his fifties, to by an import. He has a Toyota Tundra that he was driving daily, but because of gas he wanted something a little more frugal. He saw me and friends work on our Civics many times. A good deal on a DB Integra came up and he snagged it. Nice too. Hardly drives the Tundra now. At one point he went about 4-5 months last year in the Integra as his main transportation. My stepfather appreciates the car for their simplicity, light weight, gas mileage, and oh yeah....fun factor!!!! He loves driving the car.

i'm just gonna say that i'm 50/50. i like imports and am getting rather excited about doing my "vtec" swap. but i am also building an early '70s street/drag car. i have friends in both categories and although one side does stick to the "no replacement for displacement" i can always out corner them. i have worked on all sorts of cars with many different set ups., and all i can say is that i now have a bigger appreciation for anyone doing a motor swap, or turbo or any upgrade to an import. as for the "ricer" thing, 90% of the cars i've seen on this forum have had useful upgrades, "function over form". so for anyone doing a vtec swap good on ya

                    Vtec Is Awesome

As stated above NO one here said anything about v-tec making there car into a top fuel dragster. With that being said, V-tec is one of the best innovations for the internal combustion engine since fuel injection. It does kick ass and if it didn't then the new Hemi wouldn't have a knock off version of the system...

Not everyone here is into tuning for 1/4 mile time on a piece of paper. It is impressive to run a 13.5 second quarter mile in a 400+ hp 6.1L hemi, I fell it is even more impressive to run a 12.7 with 250 hp naturally aspirated 2.2L and retain the ability to turn a corner.

This is not a diss on Muscle cars or the engines they use, a friend of mine and I are currently gathering parts to build a roadster and I have love for the domestic side of life as well. Its just that Honda has been the innovator for internal combustion and other engine technology for the last 30 years.

                    Just look at F1 racing.

I agree with you, I think it was just the "no wonder muscle car guys are laughing at us". you really can't compare the 2. all i was trying to say was give the guy a break. he is really excited on his vtec swap, and he has every right to be. any way a little off topic. so thats all i'll say

and i'm pretty sure that the dodge hemi was out way b4 honda. first hemi was released in the 60s

Yes hemi was out before hoda became popular

The hemi I am referring to are the new ones. The old ones were great engines for the time they were made, no doubt about that. The old ones did not have variable valve timing though. The new ones do hence the knockoff statement.
