17s - tire size recs?

Is a 205/40/17 tire a proper offset for 17x7 rims. This is going on a 1990 Honda Accord 4DR EX. Just doing some research before I decide to buy them. Thanks

it might be a matter of semantics but 205/40/17's has nothing to do with "offset", nor 17x7. you only listed the dimensions of the wheel and tires.

"offset" is independent of those figures. you can have 15" rims with +5 or +55. as well as 17" rims with +5 to +55 and greater. the word offset means how much deviation from the center/middle of the rim the hub disk sits.

and you should be looking at 215/40/17's, or 205/45/17's tires instead.

the offsets that will work on a 17x7 rims for our accords would be +37 to +40 (for the flushed look). and +44, +45, +48 for a more tucked look.

So would it be alright if I went ahead and got the 205/40/17, I mean will it still look good and will it still work well. And when you say flushed out what exactly does that mean. Bear with me I am a noobie. Thanks

It will look fine. I have 215/45/17 on my 17x7. The only reason why I went with 215 is because I like a wider tire.

once more now... they are technically too small just for the record. the reason pilly has them is cause he drives a civic. you will find some accord owners with that size just because they get it in a package, and they have those tires on for a civic/integra. You should get the sized USC said.

had to do a lil thread clean-up.

back to the tire size. yes, 205/40/17 will be okay. but your speedometer will be off. so say if your speedo is reading 65mph, you might be going about 62-ish. i don't have the exact % of the difference but it will be somewhat significant.

oh, since you stated you're a noobie to this, not sure where you're getting the rims from but make sure you're getting 4x114.3 (or 4x4.5) PCD for the rims. and not the 4x100's. else the rims won't even bolt on.

Yes the rims and tires are a package from wheelmax. And when I called today they said that the 205/40/17 would be ok, but you say a 215/45/17 would be a better tire to get . So if I decide to go with wider tire will it rub at all when I turn or anything. And also if I go ahead and get a wider tire will I need a camber kit as well. And also not to sure what PCD's are but if I ordered from wheelmax should they have given me the proper ones or would I have to request it. Thanks again.

Like I said earlier, I have 215/45/17, and I love them. No rubbing at all, and I have my car pretty low. You can't really tell by the picture though, sorry. I used to have my car lower than in the picture and it still didn't rub. As for a camber kit, I would reccomend it. Wider tire+Quite a bit of negative camber=Tires wearing down faster

How much would a camber kit run me for all four tires? And where could I purchase a good one?

I've got the Sprint Extreme camber kit on the front. It cost me about $95, that including shipping. I am not sure about the rear, but I have seen rear camber kits go for like $30. I don't have a rear camber kit because my rear camber is not bad at all. I am happy with my camber kit because it adjusts up to something like 3.5 inches. If you got any more questions, keep them coming.

Since you only needed a rear camber kit would it be best to first get the rims so that I can take it to a shop so they can check the camber to see where I need it the most.
