Using tire calculators, i never understood how a fatter tire would allow a smaller sidewall and still maintain the correct size diameter, for example using this miata tire calculator...http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Enter stock size of XXX/XX/XX
Then enter what size tire you are looking for. Its that easy, its that cheesy. If you had done a little reaseaching, you would see that people like the 205/50 because of the shorter sidewall. But, I'm guessing you dont have any real idea why that is a good thing, do you?
I hope those links I sent up helped you. Even though you did not include what you wanted the tires for (Autox? Drag? Road Racing? DD?) I assumed that you were talking about DD since you didnt want your car out of "Wack (yo)".
205/50/15 - 4.7% fast @ 60mph.
205/55/15 - 1.4% fast @ 60mph.
205/50/16 - .6% fast @ 60mph.
205/45/17 - .2% slow @ 60mph.
So you can clearly see why 17's are such a popular choice - you get the low sidewall (45 isnt supper low, but its pretty low) but you dont sacrafice your speedometer accuracy.
The down side to 17's? Tires can be more expensive if you dont shop around (and you dont even like researching, shopping is probably outta your league), 'lowpros' can make the ride more sensitive (see: bumpy, harsh) than stock sizes. 17's also are usually heavy unless you get a good deal, or buy Kosi Rims (the sex for the price). Also, there is such a thing called rotation mass...
Verdict? Lots of people go with 15 rims with low pros. Even though its silly looking on 15s, it still helps the can handle better, but it does throw off the speedometer.
More questions? Comments? Send em my way! I love talking about rims and tires (even though I dont really know much about either in all honesty compared to some folks).
PS Sorry if I hurt your feelings, hopefully you got the point that all of this information has been covered many many times over, and can be found by simply spendling literally a few moments reseach.
Dont be lazy; do it.

With that small a sidewall, the ride will suck as well. I'd run either a 215/40 or a 215/45 depending on the drop.
