    Better tires on the back?

I just got a new tire cause my left rear was fucked up and I was like 'well can you throw this one and the right rear (another new tire) on the front?' and hes like well its better to have the tires with the least amount of wear on the back because it helps incase you go out of control but this didnt seem to make much sense to me so i was wondering if he was just talking out of his ass or knew his shit.....

Yes, new tires or the ones with the most tread remaining are supposed to go on the back. Guessing cuz for more unexperienced drivers(about 75% of them out there) it is better for the front tires to break free for a second if they oversteer too quickly rather than the fronts gripping really well, and the rear coming sliding around.

yeah that does make more sense...i was j/w because my fronts are starting to lose traction from when im not even doing a launch, just like starting from a stop light i cant get on it as quick as i used to

i agree with fizzbob on this one. traction to the steering wheels should be priority. fish tailing is more of a rwd phenomenon (or when you're on ice). and since the front is where most of the braking comes from, you'd want traction up front.

In a FWD it's like the rear tires are being pulled, and with that...even if you were skidding sideways around some corner, you're front tires are doing the turning and at same time pulling your car out of the corner to take off hard...soo, they should have more grip obviously. It's the rear tires you would want with less grip to have the rear end slide around easier, if that's what the guy was trying to say. Basically he has it all backwards.

agree x 4, best tires on the front. same reasons as stated above.

i threw the back tires on the front (back right on left front, back left on right front, etc.) and the response was tremendous. better cornering, and most of all, not all that chirping off the line. although i almost killed myself and my car doing it (god damn scissor jacks) it was worth it

since this issue was discussed in a recent thread, i thought i would bump up this discussion from 2 and a 1/2 years ago.

good tires in the front + bad tires in the rear+ snow = death

I want an Industry professional to tell me once and for all why this is the best logic.
Common will tell you that the best tires on a FWD car will go in the front.
I want to hear the right expination for this, because all these years i've been
doing the opposite, not until recently that this has caught me by suprise.

It's simple. When traction brakes, would you rather understeer or spin out? Plus on FWD cars the back is already light so it doesn't take much to get it squirrely. If you lose traction in the front you just keep going straight...in the back you die. I'm no expert, but errr...I drift a lot in Gran Turismo, and putting worse tires on the back= conducive to getting the back end loose easier.
