Yes, 16" is a good size for our cars. 17" tends to be a bit large, and from personal experience, I've learned that it's very easy to dent a 17" rim on a daily driver. 16" tires aren't going to be THAT much cheaper, though. Hell... no tires are particularly cheap anymore!
Really though... unless you're planning on doing some serious competitive racing, wheel size won't matter. Get what you think looks good. I've seen kids on forums over the years dropping TONS of money on "racing" components for cars that never see more racing than the occasional full throttle launch at a stoplight, or a ricer flyby on the highway!
