    Nankang tires..

I'm about to get a set of 18x7.5" rims and they'll need tires. I have some negative camber on my cb7 that can't be corrected - I've had two shops try and my buddy did it last time at his work.

There's enough negative camber to cause uneven wear, which means I'll probably end up replacing the tires every summer (since I put on about 15k miles per year, most in the summer, on my cb7).

I'm looking into the Nankang 225/35-18, which is a fairly inexpensive tire and I can get 4 of them locally for about $370 mounted/lifetime balanced.

I only use my cb7 as a DD, no autocross or racing.. occasionally I drive fast (100-110mph) on long trips to WI (straight away highways, got to love them!).. but nothing more than that.

Anyone here using Nankang NS-II's and have anything to say about them? I've been reading old posts and people used to really like them as a budget tire, but I didn't see anything recent.

My other alternative is BFG G-Force Sports for $650 mounted/balanced for 4 of them.. there is nothing in between those two tires as far as pricing goes.. and the smaller tires (215/40-18) is roughly the same price, saving only about $10 off of the total cost.

    The specs for the Nankangs are as follows;

    225/35-18 NanKang NS-II
    Treadwear: 340
    Temperature: A
    Traction: A
    Speed Rating: 130mph
    Load Rating: 1201 lbs
    Overall Diameter: 24.20"
Fits 18 Inch Rims: 7.5-9" Wide
    Mileage Average: 35,000+
This is the info I got online, but the NS-II's are the tires I can get locally.

    EDIT:

Is anyone using 225/40/18's on their cb7? I wonder if they'll fit..

Just out of curiosity, why can't the negative camber be corrected?

The adjuster doesn't adjust the negative camber out enough to be perfect. It's only off by about .1*R and .2*F, but after 15k miles on the tires.

I'm not lowered, my suspension is, as far as I know, stock.

You could always purchase a camber kit that will allow the proper adjustment. It would be much cheaper than buying new tires so often.

I'm only assuming the tires will last 1 summer, they'll probably last 2, since they're a 35k mile tire. My Pirelli P6's have lasted 2.5 summers and are only about half done, but you can see the camber wear on them - I even it out by rotating them every oil change

My point is that the tires would need to be replaced in 1-2 summers anyways, so I'd prefer to buy the cheaper tires since my cb7 is a DD and I don't take it to the track. Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse people with the camber issue

I'd prefer not to mess with the camber kit until I lower the car, if I lower the car.

i cant speak from personal experience but my dude had nankangs on his 96 civic hatch and he had two seperate tires blow on him, the second made him hit a guard rail.

We deemed them to be cheap unreliable tires.....go with the BFG.

Nankang tires are garbage. Complete garbage. They wear out way to quick for what they are rated for. If they are rated at 35k miles then expect them to last 15k .

My tire supplier told me also that people only buy nankang tires to sell their cars.

I've had a set of the touring sport ones and they wore out in about 3 months. Granted I had bad alingment BUT with the same alingment but different set the other set lasted 9 months.

If you can get the Fuzion ZRI series they are the best bang for the buck tires. And they actually last pretty long.

If I'm going to spend more than $400 on tires, I'll be saving up to buy Pirelli's.

The point here is to find an affordable tire that'll last at least 1 summer, hopefully 2. So far, the above 2 comments are the only that I've found online that are against NanKang.

Still looking to hear from those who have owned them

To me you seem to have your heart set on the nankang just because they will last one season. If you want go ahead and get them.

I don't know where you are seeing all these positive reviews for nankang but I for one HAD them and used them, I was not pleased at all and like I said if you want cheap and good quality get the fuzion. If you want cheap get the nankang.

I had them, and they were the worst tires i've ever owned. didn't last long, they were on my 17's... and they handled like shit... even worse in the rain

I recently took my car in for an alignment as well, he too said my camber couldn't be corrected, I'm only lowered 1.75 in the rear and 2.0 in the front, but he said the camber kit or something would hit my inner fender well. He said to just run with it, so away I went

x2 I had them on my old 16's. They were horrible, ZERO handling, if the road is wet you will be better off staying at home unless you like the feeling of driving on ice. I also had an issue with them simply failing and going flat out of nowhere. They were very poorly constructed. I was actually able to get money back from Nankang because the tires simply failed while I was driving.

One of the failures looked like one of the Firestone tire failures from the ford explorer fiasco. Thankfully I was only doing between 25-30mph at the time, although it was enough to put me hard against the curb and did a number on the rim.

Nah, I'm not set on them. I was just pointing out that if I was going to spend the money on those ZRI's, I would prefer to save up and put a little more into some nice Pirelli's - probably the P Zero Nero, or P6's if I can find them in the right size.
