not really...the rear brakes don't really help stop the car, they are only there to make sure the rear is lined up in a straight line when you stop.
for example, trying to brake using the hand brake won't do that much in comparison to the front brakes.
I have upgraded my front brakes to 94 Acura Vigor ones and the car stops really well, there is no instability.
now if the rear brakes are too strong, then you will have issues; in this case the rear brakes will lock up and cause the car to spin out.DEVOTE

yeah I mean it could affect it under a few circumstances...but when you think about it will really come down to how much grip your tires have front/rear

im pretty sure BMW does it for asthetic reasons.
If they were so important, Honda woulda put them on when the first came out with disc.
