    Prelude VTEC calipers

Good day everyone. I received my 99 CL front hubs for my ROH conversion and the next item to purchase will be the calipers. I know that I need the 93-96 Prelude VTEC (PVTEC) calipers, however my concern comes with the core charge. I searched on rockauto.com and on napaonline.com, but so far rockauto has the cheapest set of wagner rebuilts.

Has anyone had issues returning the cb7 calipers as core when ordering the PVTEC calipers?

Also, I know I need the 23T bracket, but will a 25T bracket work and function just fine with the PVTEC rotors?

    Thanks!

You need to have prelude calipers to exchange for core.

I think the lude rotors require 23t brackets.

DarkCloud is right. Are you wanting to go with rebuilt calipers for peace of mind or because that's your only option? I just think they'll cost a fortune in comparison to what you'd find at a junkyard. Those have to be some of the most common Honda calipers ever. They came on nearly every Honda car larger than an Accord. I made a list in another thread but I don't feel like finding it now.

It's more for peace of mind and the only option I can find with the correct bracket. Rockauto.com has rebuilt PVTEC calipers with brackets for ~$50 including core, which isn't too bad.

I did search the local JY around my area and none of them have Prelude VTEC's in stock. The calipers seem easy to find, it's the damned bracket I can't seem to find.

I do you have your list in another thread, which has been a huge help! However, the bracket is what I'm concerned about in regards to the PVTEC rotor.

They sell just the bracket at Rockauto.... That's where I got mine.

the wagons use the 25T bracket. You can use the Wagon rotors with the VTEC calipers they're all the same. The only thing that differs is the thickness of the rotor, hence the reason for 23T and 25T designations.

Even the bracket is on a ton of cars. If you've stumbled upon a Legend that doesn't have the dual-piston calipers then voila!, you've just discovered both the calipers and the brackets. I have a problem when people refer to the brackets as Prelude VTEC brackets because then people get so confused and have tunnel vision in regards to which parts they need to buy. These brackets are on many, many Hondas and Acuras.

why is there a whole nother thread about this when its thoroughly discussed in the brake upgrade thread ??

i know all for a fact the info on legend prelude wagon vigor calipers rotors bearings and hubs are in the suspension section b/c i actually sat down and took the time to read all the threads and pages within them before purchasing my setup.

The thread was initially started because he wanted to know if just any caliper could be returned. What's the problem?

Will running a 25T bracket on a 23 size rotor create any vibrations or play in the system? My guess would be "no" as the lug nuts and wheel will hold the rotor tight against the hub. Thanks Losiracer2!

That's the source of my confusion; all of the options and cars those calipers, brackets, and rotors came on.

Precisely. I wanted to know if anyone had purchased reman calipers and used their cb7 calipers as core without problems. I want to be honest about it and not dick over a company or get anyone in trouble. Thanks Jarrett!

no it won't, when I actually first did a Vigor brake upgrade, I was given the wrong brackets, a 25T and 28T unknowingly and drove on those for over 4 yrs with some 23T rotors until I wanted to upgrade to some legend 2 pistons when my brakes finally wore out and realized that the remanufacturers didn't pay attention to what brackets they put in the kits.

I think the only thing you may notice is increased brake pedal travel since it has to cover that 2mm distance or 5 mm distance in my case.

Perfect! This answers a lot for me and I really appreciate it!

                            Thanks!
