    custom wilwood brake kit?

willwood sells generic sized calipers and i found this out whiloe browsing the VW forums for my corrado. now the corrado runs a 11" stock sized rotor and a thord party makes custom adapters that will run a specific wilwood caliper.

Basically i have everything broken down:
    -2 forged dynalite wilwood 4 piston calipers = 250.00
-custom adapters (ill just price them for the VW for an example) = 189
-SS lines because the wilwoods take a diff fitting and i dont feel like running adapters but can def. be done at a lot cheaper = 90
    -wilwood brake pads = 50

total price comes to around 580 dollars before shipping

this sure beats the big brake kits for our cars...now for someone to make a custom adapter...let me see what i can come up with.

This is basically what Ronald did, if my memory serves me corectly.

Wilwood would be an awesome option if we can get a good adaptor fabbed up.

i want to see if i can get an entire spindle so i can probably fab the first piece with the mill at work. from there we can probably get dimensions and have it cnc produced.

if you plan to run your car mildly hard at all ronald advised me not to get dynalite calipers as they tend to start sticking after 6- 8 months im gonna get the kit off wilwoods site then buy forged superlite calipers

well, any caliper can be used as long as the mounting is the same. i want the wilwoods for show.

im hoping both the dynalite and superlite calipers use the same brackets, i also have to find out if i can use itr rear calipers on my cb rear brakes

Does the ITR rear caliper have a bigger piston?

bigger piston does not necessarily mean better braking, but you could mount 300zx calipers with an adapter or sti's or almost anything, all of which would more than likely be over kill for our cars (execpt for you crazy hp/track going guys with money).

the benefit with the wilwoods is that the calipers are super cheap, upgradable and the pads are cheap. aset of track pads are only 60 bucks. plus, it looks good if you get the polished or powdercoated versions.

accords are a lot heavier than a corrado or integra and we can def. use a better braking setup.

I believe mounting points for Dynalite and Superlite calipers are different. Me using Superlite calipers, I can only use certain Wilwood calipers, but not all of them, since they all have different mounting dimensions.

If you do want to fab up custom brackets, then might as well grab a pair of better Wilwood calipers and work your way from there Even Superlites are still cheap..Mine was only about $300/side IIRC...Again, I haven't seen/heard good things about Dynalites, as most of them end up being seized in under a year..

But for 11" brake setup, I'll definitely put my money on Spoon calipers...Even the twin-blocks will do...Saves a lot of headaches, bolts right on, no modifications necessary to both mounting dimensions and brake lines. Brake pads are super easy to find, and they've been proven to be VERY reliable...The only reason I went with Wilwoods was because I wanted to go bigger than 11.2", and I can get Wilwood parts locally..Even now as we speak, I have caliper rebuild kit sitting under my feet, just in case my calipers ever seize (Which Wilwoods calipers are notorious for) But if I did decide to stick with 11.2", I would've been rocking a set of Spoon calipers right now

But yes, my advice would be to stay away from the Dynalites. If you're going to fab up custom brackets, might as well go with better Wilwood calipers But are Dynalites really that cheap tho? $250 for a pair of calipers?? Dayum I guess that's not too bad hahaha just throw them out everytime they seize on you and buy yourself a new pair of calipers

U would be surprised what just a decent set of rotors and pads could do

My friends' Altimas had, from what I know, single piston calipers and 12" rotors

They weighed about 3300# (actually the one I'm thinking of weighed 3400# with the system)

With nothing more than Brembo blanks and from what I remember Hawk pads, on a 30 mile highway romp at speeds fluctuating between 70 and 130 with a lot of panic braking they stopped on a dime and did not fade the whole time

I think with a Prelude VTEC setup and decent rotors/pads we could have the same thing for a lot less money than some Willwoods

Spoons go for about $1500 a pair

If you are going to be making custom brackets I would try and find some bigger rotors also.

Here is a good place where u can match different cars rotors to the prelude/cl bolt pattern and the accord offset.
