    rotor rust, prevention? (pic)

so theres this part of my rotors that rust up really badly, looks really nasty.
ive noticed that i dont see any other CBs that have this problem, either that or they're rims have lots of spokes and you just cant see the rust.
well i had an idea, and its to sand down this area and use some high temperature caliper paint to prevent further rust.
has anyone done this before? and is it a good idea?

Try painting them with caliper paint. Honestly though thats why you could next time pay alittle extra and get cad plated rotors. Then no more rust.

Cadmium plating. Its an option by some rotor companys for a small extra fee.

These are plated. Give them a gold color.

I can't see photos at work, but just FYI...

The hub portion of rotor is normal to have surface rust, in given environment.

The vanes of the front vented rotors, will rust from inside out. Front rotors should be replaced every other brake pad change due to this. They can actually break on your from inside-out corrosion.

It is normal for the brake pad surface of the rotor to get light surface rust on them when not in use and it is humid, given environment. It is also dependent on the quality/type of material used for the rotors.

and it just ruins the look of my car

Just paint them. Take a wire brush and clean the current rust off, mask off the pad surface area, put a coat of rust converter paint or something similar on the bare metal, then a couple coats of good brake caliper paint and call it a day.

would it be fine if i just sanded it down, cleaned it with alcohol, and then use caliper paint?

The stuff that is on your rims is brake dust, thats normal depending on what pads you have and how much you use the brakes. Easy to wash off.
