sway bar for rally?

now...on the project car, we were going to sport a Progress sway bar mainly because it is sitting in the garage

but in rally, i believe you want more understeer and not oversteer. so if i got oversteer on asphalt, i reckon on the dirt and gravel it would be easier to get that rear sliding which i dont want and only need at the pull of the e-brake.

so my options are the ST full setup or move to a 15mm legend/vigor sway bar. im already planning the trunk brace and rear strut bar so that may suffice.

what do you guys think? this whole rally thing is new to me :o

i have a 29mm on the rear and a 25mm on my front.
i have no understeer going into curves and i only have oversteer when i cut the wheel hard one direction then back straight.

I cant imagine wanting MORE understeer in a FWD car...rally or not.

I think the saying "In rally, you want more understeer than oversteer", might come from the fact that most rally cars are AWD.

You want more oversteer, that way it will be easier to swing the back end of the car around in the corners.

yeah I believe with a FWD on a dirt track would would want to try and reduce the understeer

so ya reckon the ST sway bars are sufficient? those are adjustable.

I would just use the rear one and keep the front stock. Thats what im using and its pretty neutral.

i have...except their setups are totally different.

i knew long before this thread that no one really had any rally setups so i just wanted to confirm my decision

ill probably go for stock for now because the vehcile is going to be raced on asphalt as well, maybe even daily driven.

like i mentioned before in a fwd you want oversteer because they came factory with understeer and that means your fucked when cornering hard, oversteer allows you to pull out of a slide because your front end never looses traction.

the best idea for this is to loosen you front stock sway bars a hair and upgrade to a stiff rear sway bar.
in doing this it creates pressure when cornering, the front will rotate more causeing the back to stay stiff, thus breaking loose while your front wheels still have firm contact to the payvment pulling you through a high speed corner.
