    Steering Squealing

I have this really annoying squealing noise coming from my car everytime I turn the wheel. I think its somewhere down by the driver-side wheel but not sure. Theres no unsual tension on the steering wheel. One day I pulled of the wheel and hit almost every moving component with some WD40 and it was good for a couple of days but it returned. Also when I go over bumps it makes the same sound. Anyone have any ideas?

check for a Powersteering pump leak

but before that, check PS fluid pump level

    then check the belt

I had a problem like that. It turns out that I had water in my power steering system. I drained out the old fluid and put new one in and no problems. And yea it would happen only when I turn the wheel. Its a loud squealing noise until the wheel is straight again.

i checked the belt and the pump, the sound is not coming from there. its somwhere under the car, by the driver-side front wheel. kinda sound like really old springs.

my car is doing the same thing.. My uncle says air is getting into the system somewhere..in a perfect world, one of the power steering lines is leaking, and air is getting in... Worst case scenario, the power steering rack is bad..

Yeah, i gotta fix my shit too.....

Check your lower balljoint ASAp. They tend to make that noise right before they break!!!!

well usually when a ball join is bad you will hear squicking sound when u turn the steering wheel and when u go over small bumps. the way to check if the lower ball joint is bad is to get a long crow bar and stick it between the lower arm and the wheel assembly and check if there is any play in it. if yes then its a lower ball joint. if not then u might have air in the power steering system.

if your p/s system is pulling in air usually there should be foaming action in the reservoir.

ok i check de lower ball joint and it looked like it was in perfect condition. Also the wheel had no play at all. For some weird reason I think the sound is coming from shock. I think maybe when I put them in a while back I didnt put something properly. I remember when I was done, I had a couple of things left over (washers). I hit up the shock with some WD40 and everything seemed quiet when i lowered the car off the jack. Ill see later in the week if the noise re-appears.
