    Question to those tucking tyres

Ok, so I've read the thread seeing who had the lowest cars and the heights some people are running are amazing. I've just recently installed Ksports and was hoping to go a bit lower than I seem to be able to.

People seem to say that the main problem when lowering is the upper control arm hitting but my main problem is the tyres rubbing on the top of the inside of the wheel well.

The splash guard/lining in there has worn through and there is a metal edge in there that is peeling bits off my tyres like a knife when I go over decent bumps. Also, I seem to rub fairly badly on the inner side of the inside of the wheel well when I turn.

Is there anything people have done to get their rides lower? Grinding off that metal bit at the top of the well? I havn't had a very close look at it. Thanks for any tips.

as bad as it sounds, to be able to roll lower, NEGATIVE CAMBER is your friend. You can roll the fenders, but that can only get you so far. With the amount of negative camber i have when layed out and driving, I have no problems with rubbing or anything.

Thanks for the reply. When you say rolled the fenders are you talking about the outside bit. The lip?

I'm not having any issues with that, I havn't got a camber kit yet and yeah there is fairly major negative camber.

The place I'm hitting though is directly above about the middle of the tyre. Not sure how else to describe it. Normally the splash guard would hide it but the plastic splash guard has worn through from the tyre hitting it. Ergh. I think I need to just take off the guard and have a look under there.

I don know what you are saying. The outer lip of the wheel well opening, would be made larger by rolling, and help out wit the tires. But your rubbing issure is strange, how wide are your tires? I am riding LOW, and when i mean low, i mean i am slammed! I dont have the rubbing issue that you are describing, and I have a camber kit installed... Maybe that your problem, how big is your problem, and can you get pics of how the front looks? Maybe that can get us somewhere...

As you can see by the pics, that I am rolling low... I think i need some more info on your setup to try to figure out why you have issues... Maybe you arent low enough?

get some 50 series tires, that will solve your problem and you'll be lower. later.

I know exactly what you mean, same thing has been happeneing to me with my tein setup. The thing is that this only happened on the right side and it jsut so happened that I badly needed a radius rod bushing so maybe you can check that. The camber kit usually knock at the top fender well so I wouldnt even get those. Negative camber is beter anyway, might cost you some tires more often but, if you wanna live low thats the price

Here's pics of the places I'm rubbing. The inside when I turn:

Bit along the top. You can see the shiny metal bit showing through the plastic.

I've had a bit of a grind at it this afternoon. Not really sure how much I can take off though. Seems to have spot welds connecting a fairly major looking piece of bracing type metal along behind the fender.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I definitely want some lower profile tyres. So maybe I'll just have to ride 4wd style until these wear out.

I'll check out that bushing too. Thanks.

Here's the best I could show. I have just raised the front another 5mm. Kinda disapointing because it's getting close/is about the same height as I had before with koni's and kings.

I also ground off those bits along the top a bit. I think I free'd up another 3 or 4mm on the left because one side of the join was overlapping. Maybe got another 2mm on the right. Also rounded off the spot where it was rubbing on the inside a bit. So we'll see how all that goes.

I'll probalby leave it about this height for now. Maybe even a bit higher if it still rubs, until I get a camber kit. Then I'll try again lower. If that fails I guess I'll wait until I get lower profile tyres.

Unless anyone tells me I can grind off that whole bit up the top.

Hmm that's weird, what size tires do you have right now? 'coz I'm rolling on 205/60/15 with the ITRs, and I'm not rubbing or anything like that..Not that I know of n e wayz..Maybe I should check my fender liners tomorrow morning hehee I seriously don't think I'm rubbing tho..And I think my height ride might be the same as yours, if not a tiny bit lower..Hmm

Yeah same size tyres. 205/60/15. What suspension you using?

The height shown in that picture is the current height though. So yeah hopefully I won't get any rubbing at this height which looks similar to yours. The process I've been through since installing the sussy has been:

first installed: Tyres tucking pretty majorly on all corners -> Tyres getting shredded on every second bump. Couldn't turn the wheels to full lock because of inner rubbing.

raised 1cm: Tyres hitting top on big bumps/dips. Capable of full lock going slow. Bad rubbing when turning at speed on the inside.

raised 1cm: Only rubbing when hammering corners with bad bumps/dips

raised 5mm: Current height. Havn't tested yet.

Ground Controls with Koni Yellows, almost tucking front tires

I was rubbing in the same spot, just take a hammer to it and bash it in then just spray undercoating on there, you wanna be low you gotta do some custom smashing and bashing
