    "Koni Adapter" for GC's

My GC coilovers arrived today. yay.

However, I got two sheets of installation manuals with them and one of them shows a "Koni Adapter" that sits on the snap ring. Here is a pic of the page. (I am putting them on Koni Yellows)

*edit* The other page I got is this one:

I didn't get this part with them. Just wondering if I need it? I have asked the seller aswell and he's getting back to me. Just thought I'd see if some of the people with this combo can comment. thanks

Mcdizzle has said his rear GC's are sitting on a plate type thing. Is there anyone else with this combo that can confirm? Before I go off at the seller. Thanks.

Thanks for the response. Well I'm pretty sure if you get the GC's meant for Koni's they don't sit in the koni cup. If you look at those pictures I showed above it says to remove the cup and have them either sitting directly on the snap ring or in that thing it calls a Koni Adapter.

The height adjusters on mine have a inner lip on the bottom that I think should sit over the snap ring and makes sure that it dosn't pop out of the groove. Just like the original cups have.

your right, what you think looks like a koni adapter isnt a koni adapter, its just simply showing part of the sleeve on the strut.

Anyways your konis shoulda came with the cups for the springs/coilovers to sit in, and then that cup sits on the snap ring.

Ok I think I've worked it out. Apparently Koni's shock body has a thinner diameter than stock. So if you have the GC's not designed for Koni shocks you need the adapter because they are too big to fit on the snap ring. Hopefully the ones I have are the right diameter and will fit straight onto the snap rings. Less parts to bounce on each other sounds good to me. I'll be having a go at installing this weekend.

Either way, you don't use the spring seat cup that comes with the Koni's.

Aleks: Did you ask for the GC's for Koni shocks? Have you got a picture of the coilovers?

Yes i have the pictures below, im going down right now to look at the part number on the coilovers, hopefully there is one, the one that we need is 4510.02 that is the GCs designed to work with KONI, below are the pics of mine, if i dont use those metal cup things, the adjustable part of the spring will just fall thru the shock body......i dont even really have a "snap ring" can you post some pics of urs?

*EDIT* I cant find the part number, only found "1000.250.0250" and also i bought these used....the guy before (jdmkid) said they rode PERFECT and thats exactly how he had them...as i do now

gc's aren't suppose to use that silver cup on the bottom, and I thought gc sleeves are red and gold ?

most of them are i belive so too, maybe the silver part is from another setup, some cheap ebay sleeve-over the springs are real tho, they say ground control and eibach on them, not sure why the sleeve is silver tho.

Yeah they look completely different to mine. Pic of mine below. That number you have is the spring part number I think. Those sleeves definitely don't look like GC's. The GC's have a single ring locking mechanism. Mine also came with a replacement rubber top seat. That goes inside the top hat.

Possibly those sleeves would fit the GC koni adapter then you could get rid of the koni spring cups. But not sure. The snap ring I'm talking about is under the silver cups. The bit that you move to change the seating height on the Koni shocks.

I'll know more after I take my shocks out on the weekend and try fitting them.

the gc sleeves if you look under it should flare in and have a little recessed part that will fit over the koni snap ring, and once it is connected the bottom of the sleeve will sit flush with the snap ring. Normal gc sleeves for the agx for example won't flare inward like that creating a larger diameter.

                              Yep. Fitted mine on Saturday.

I removed the silver koni cups on all 4 shocks. Leaving just the snap ring. The GC's then just slid over the shock body and sat on the snap ring with an overhang to stop it popping out. This gave ample adjustability. I think the shocks would have bottomed out before the springs did.

So I figure if yours are too big to fit straight on the snap rings then you probably don't have the Koni ones and maybe with a GC Koni adapter they would.

Bad news for me is I discovered the shocks are buggered. Ride was all bouncy so I just put the old springs back on. Selling the GC's and going all out for K-Sports.
