Painting Brake Calipers

Hey,

I just wanted to know how hard is it to take apart the brake Caliper (I think thats what its called) to paint it Red.

I use to rock Steelies with hubcaps, but now I have ITRs on my car and the front brake situation is hidious. I think there are just 2 bolts that hold the thing on? and theres a fluid line?

Im pretty sure I can just leave it Dangling and paint it as its suspended by the fluid line? It would be a bitch tho b/c I have to sand it and mask everything around it off.

Just cover the rotor and all with a shop towel like so:


Sand the caliper and then spray it. Remember to use high-temp spraypaint.

advance auto sells a product made by Dupli-Color that is a brush on caliper paint..it holds up better than any high temp spray paint that I've ever seen...and they have it in red silver and black I think...anyway just my $0.02

DO NOT EVER LET A CALIPER HANG BY THE BRAKE LINE!!! LOTS of people do this but they are all stupid! ALWAYS use something like a bent coat hanger to hang the caliper by the coil spring or otherwise.

yea dont ever let the caliper hang by the brake line I learned this the hard way

Im not gonna take anything apart. Im just gonna paint it while its on there. I will take pics and make a DIY...soon...lol...I really dont feel like doing it this week, tired as hell from work...Imma go home and sleep.

If I were you, I would take the caliper off. Its gonna look pretty cheap IMO to do it on the car with spray paint. Especially since its not going to get as clean as it should, you will miss so many parts, you will get overspray on the car and suspension.

thats gotta be the worst way to paint your caliper, well the most stupid. you
re gonna get paint on everything, just take the time and take the caliper off, once you have the wheel off it takes me no more then 5 minutes to get everything apart!!!

I plan on painting my calipers. I'm buying reman. calipers and painting them b4 I put them on my car.

These are mine that I got for 50 shipped brand new off ebay. They were just regular dull silver, I wanted a little more something something, so i just painted them with plenty of clear. Stripped them down, masked off quite a bit, and sprayed them with a few coats of hi-temp and quite a few coats of clear.



They have been on there for a while now, probably close to a year, and they do get dirty from the pads, but all it takes is a quick scrub and they are back to nice and clean. Thats why I wanted a few coats of clear, so they would stay easy to clean.

Many people ask why I did silver, instead of some color. Of course, thats cuz I dont really dig much attention, car needs to look stock

I used the Duplicolor kit. Like Aero said, they get dirty from brake dust but it comes off with a nice cleaning. And I just have them painted black. Whatever you use make sure it's clean as can be before you paint. And take off the bracket and caliper, it's just a few minutes to do it right. I put on new calipers when I did it so it was cake for me.
