Installed Neu Sport + Koni *pics*

This weekend I finally installed the Neuspeed Sport and Koni Yellow (rear) setup I got off ebay a few weeks ago. I should have taken a before pic, but it was like 5+ finger gap in the front and 4 rear before installation. Now its more like a 2 finger gap for the rear and 2 - 3 finger gap in front.

IMPESSIONS: Hell yeah to handling! I will take any corner with confidence now. My tires actually loose grip now, whereas it used to just roll into the corners and turn like a boat. Where you have to just dive into the corner and hope you made the right trajectory.. no more! there is steering response and greatly reduced body roll. Now I just stay flat and the tires start to break loose. I alreay feel the need for a sway bar (LX driver here.)

My only gripe is that the front bottoms out! Not just on driveways but on dips in the road. Like a little sinkhole before a bridge, I hit it. I thought the sports would be fine for most any road condition... not! I'm glad I didn't take the race springs for this reason. I hope I'm just scraping the tow hook and not fucking up my downpipe, but time will tell.

Here is a picture of the car on Slipstreams with 195/50/R15. I like the rims and hate the tires. I definetly want to get hooked up with some 195/60 series so the wheels are the same size as stock. Although accelleration is faster the little wheels don't quite look right to me.... opinions??

There was one problem with the Koni's. The nut on the strut is about half as thick as the nut on the stock suspension. That means 1/2 the threads. It also means that I stripped it out with the air wrench. That made it rattle, so I had to pick up a nut to put on the end. I used some threadlock with it and will hope it holds. You can see the koni nut welded to the strut. It is sooo thin:

Oh yeah, one other mod came with this. Energy Suspension torque mount insert. It is the best $15 I ever invested into my car. The throttle response is awesome because the torque is going to the wheels instead of first lifting my engine and tranny up. These inserts keep the drivetrain on the ground and took a whole 5 minutes to install.

\werd, I was concerned about melting but its a thick insert. Even if the outside melts a little it will still be substantial where it counts... As far as I can tell the outside doesnt support anything, its there as a spacer so the insert is snugly inserted.

you can actually see how the header used to be wrapped when I got it. It left impressions in the coating. Its an internally ceramic coated header and should not be wrapped.

btw I drove about 50 hwy miles last night and it seems to be okay so if it melts it should melt slowly. its an insert so even if it completely melts and falls out I will still have the OEM rubber mount under it so no damage done!

actually it wont melt its strong as hell. Shonuff has one on his car with no heatshield no problem with it eversince.

Oh btw dude congrats on the drop feels comfortable doesnt it . As for the bottoming out part you need to put the bumpstops in the back and front it should stop the harshness out a littlebit

I admit I am not familar with lowering, this is my first car... but its not my springs that are bottoming out its my actual chassis scraping on the roadway.

It just occured to me that the reason might be strut related. I have factory struts in the front so it would make sense that the compression dampening is not good enough so teh car would "dip" too much when i roll over the deprssions in the road, causing it to scrape. Does that sound about right? I would love to get some koni neuspeeds in the front too, but the best I've found them for is $305 shipped for both left and right front struts. Thats more than any other car part I have purchased. Holy baller, batman!

Oh yeah thanks sparkle, it does feel great!

Not quite understanding how it is your car scraping since you are not slammed. You will benefit greatly from swapping out the current shocks to the Konis. Not sure if that will solve your problem since I am not entirely understanding how your chassis is scraping. It could be your control arms and if it is you can hammer out some of the area in the fenderwell where the control arm hits or/and you can mod the control arm by dremeling off enough so that it is no longer hitting the chassis.

Your front shocks are gone. The back ones last much much longer because all the weight of the car is in the front. I would advise you to put the koni's on the front, and the stocks on the back.

Ive got the sports too and they are great drop. The 2nd picture makes the car look no soo low as the first, but it looks real nice with those tires. I have had my energy insert and my header installed and nothing has melted.

You can't just switch them. There are different ones on the front than that are on the back.
