My AGX blew after one day!!!

I finally installed my AGXs in the front end because the shocks that were in there before were completely shot. So the car felt great throughout the whole day of driving it around. The next day, I'm driving to work and notice some really bad vibrations coming from the driver's side. I pull over and start pushing down on the drivers side fender and the shock is completely blown!! I pulled it out and sure enough, oil on the shaft and when I compressed it, it didn't come back up! I don't remember hitting any kind of pothole hard enough to have caused this, nor is the car slammed. It's probably less than a 2" drop on Ground Controls. I'm going back to the place I got them today, but I'm sure I'm just going to aggrivate the hell out of myself, since the guy I bought them from kept telling me how KYB wouldn't warranty them because I was installing them on coil-overs. So therefore, I'm gonna go shell out another $85 on another shock because I have no choice, since I need my car!!

Anyone else have this occur to them?

where was the damper setting at? it may have been too stiff. make sure the setting is at the right positions. they can be turned TOO MUCH on one side. because it's not coming up doesn't mean it's blown. the spring does the rebounding. is it easy to push in? unless it had some major defect, the damper should not deteriorate that quickly. notice any fluid leaks, broken seals, scratches on the piston rod?

It wasn't too stiff because it was only set on 2, and the piston rod goes down easily, which is how I noticed that the shock was first blown. There was also oil all over the rod. I seriously don't understand why this would have happen.

Did you install it correctly? Did you cut your bumpstop or did you even have one under there. If not that made be your problem. I'm riding on AGX and ebay coilover dropped 3 inch and my shocks are fine for over 3-4 month now.

                      To clear up any doubts...

                      1. They were installed correctly. I know, since I did it myself
                      2. I can't recall hitting any pothole significant enough to have blown the shock.
                      3. Bumpstops were cut

I'm going to have to assume that it was either a defective unit, or maybe I did hit a pothole that I wouldn't have thought was bad enough to blow the strut. I didn't have a chance to go yesterday, but I'll be going today. Wish me luck...

Just wanted to let you guys know that I was able to get a replacement for free! Although, I did lie a bit, telling him I was riding on Neuspeed Sofsports

If anyone is looking for AGXs, hit these people up. I got my set for $278!

It's amazing that you got a replacement. kYB supposedly checks the shock to look for signs of a sub-1.5" drop. I assume you got the replacement from the shop, and not from KYB! You lucked out!

If you want to go lower than 1.5" and you plan on running on AGXs, you need to accept the risk that a blown shock is NOT covered by the warranty. I blew one on a pothole, and I'm only 1.7" or so in the front. I didn't even bother wasting my money sending the shock back to KYB. I just shelled out the $100 to get one sent to me next-day.
