which calipers?

I went to the parts store yesterday to get some pads and the salesman asked me which calipers do I have akebono or nissin.. I honestly didn't know the answer to this one can anyone help me out so I can tell. Thanks

For the record this only applies to front brakes. All rear brake calipers are the same

Have you taken your calipers off before?

If its a nissin caliper it will have a 14mm bolt thats fairly small that threads into the slide pin

If its an akebono caliper it will have a larger 17mm bolt that threads into the caliper itself and is the whole slide pin in one.

im not positive that this is entirely accurate my 93 coupe has akebono front calipers and trust me, they have never been swapped.

p.s. nissin calipers will say nissin on them and akebono calipers will have something like this i believe

my sedan has the nissin calipers... but as to whether they have been swapped, if they were it wasn't done by me theyve been nissin ever since ive had the car.
