creaking rack after manual rack conversion

i followed the diy to the t. its kinda vague in some areas but it worked well. i still have a LOUD creaking/groaning/binding sound coming from the rack when turning. sometimes its quiet and easy to turn, and others its loud and harder to turn. what gives?

I am assuming your referring to the dis-assembly of the rack, as you mentioned conversion not "removed PS"

when you did the conversion which method did you use? removing the inner tube or grinding the piston off the rack?

neither.

maybe thats the problem. that diy isnt very clear... :/
