    front lower ball joint problem

well in the process of replacing my brake rotors i was taking the lower ball joint out and (like the moron i am) hit it with a hammer to do so, slightly messing up the threads. but i got that semi fixed with the help of a real small flat head and a razor blade. with the lower ball joint still not out i put a nut back on so i wouldn't hit the threads again. eventually i get the ball joint out but now the i cant get the damn nut off because it was real tight on the beginning threads where i hit it and the ball joint rotates with it.

i hope you cam make sense of my situation, its pretty late and im tired
im going to get a new ball joint now but i still need a way to get the current one off. the only thing i can think of is just going away at it with a hack saw but for now im open to suggestions.
ive already tried putting weight on the joint by lowering the car so the weight is on the lca on a stand but it still spins...

Yeah, that's tough, been there esp. in the junkyard. Like you've done, all the weight possible on the taper. If you have access, impact gun. Otherwise, maybe heat the nut and the stud, soak w/ pb blaster. Otherwise you'll have to either split the nut or cut the stud right off. Any room for vise grips in between?

      bummer
yeah theres no room for vise grips. im just going to lake out the lca with it and grind the bolt off.
ok now for reinstalling the knuckle how do i know if the ball joints are all the way seated in the lca and the uca. i can sit there with a mallet hammering at them or does someone have a good way of putting more pressure to seat them properly. tips?
      -thanks

^well, they pretty much seat should I say automatically w/ the least of effort. The real problem is the problem you're having, putting serious torque on the nut when it's (the nut) not seated against the lca. That applied torque is just too much for the taper to hold back. If the threads on the stud are mint, you'll be good to go. Obviously the weight of the knuckle seats the lower just fine. For the outer tie rod end and upper b/j, I just simply seat the 2 w/ my hands and thread on the nut then torque. Hope that makes sense. If possible, see if you can cut or grind the nut/stud while on the car, that'll save you from pulling the lca

go to autozone and rent their balljoint tool. It looks like a HUGE C clamp. Then use the cones that come with it and tighten it in there. Make sure you don't tighten on to the balljoint, so use the appropriate cones to space it out to leave enough clearance for when you tighten the clamp.

It doesn't cost anything, just put it on your card and they'll refund it when you bring it back.

ok just making sure i didnt have to somehow press them in too. yeah i had to pull the lca out(not that hard anyway) and take it to a friends shop but ive already got everything apart now and a new ball joint pressed in. just about to put the knuckle back on the car... hope it goes smoothly.
            thanks guys
