I'm So Pissed! My SPC Camber Kit Broke...

A few weeks ago I installed my SPC camber kit, kit #67340. I followed the directions exactly, and I watched the DIY video before installation. They were pretty much similar in their directions.

Now, I'll be honest, when I first installed the kit, I didn't torque it down to the specifications in the directions as I knew it was going to be adjusted in a few days. So, the Friday after I installed them, I adjusted them to a point where I still had about -1.0* of camber on each side (this time torquing them to the correct specs). Well today I planed on adjusting them to where I would have about -0.5* of camber on each side to see how it would feel before I performed my 5-lug conversion.

Well the passenger side went okay. I go to do the driver side, and the top nut wouldn't budge. I'm trying for about 10 minuted with an open ended wrench, and nothing; that is until the damn top nut edges started to shear. So, I'm like shit, I can get a new top nut from SPC. I told myself, let me take the whole arm off, and take it to the Toyota dealership around the corner where I know everyone with aspirations to get it off with an impact gun. I begin loosing the bottom nut, and it gets to the point where the cotter pin hole is, and it stops turning (yes the cotter pin was out without leaving any material behind).

Now, I'm like, super WTF. I had my ratchet with an extend socket attached, and it seemed as it didn't want to move. I took a firm stance, pulled the ratchet clockwise, and the damn nut sheared right off from where the cotter pin hole is.

WTF, why me? I took my time, put everything on like it was meant to go, and now I'm out of driving for at least a week or so; well, at least 'til I get it fixed. Now I have to wait to do my 5-lug conversion.

    /Rant.

Oh, and BTW, I still can't get the damn top nut off. Maybe a griding wheel if the impact gun can't get it off.

why did you use an open end wrench? that only grabs on 2 or 3 of the sides of the nut...no box end wrench handy?

I used the circular part of it. It's hard to get leverage using a socket wrench, so I used the next best thing. I guess I should have said I used the closed ended part (boxed end) of an open ended wrench.

                    That sounds good.

Hey have you tried doubling up the wrenches?
                    like so...

                    more leverage.

                      more leverage.
That's a good idea, but using 6 point sockets are ideal. It's not really a leverage problem; more like the nut is so shallow, it's hard to maintain any type secure grip on them. I think I may use flat head vice grips. That way there's no slipping. My first idea is try to stick with a socket.

Heat gun? Expand the nut a bit and it should be easy. That's how I pop my ball joints.

Hmmm, I have the same camber kit and adjusted mine myself a few times with the "boxed-in" end wrench with no issues. Had it adjusted again at Firestone and the nut is still fine. It's torqued to 120 ft.lbs. right? My guess is you way over torqued it or the wrench wasn't flat on the nut (more likely). Either way that sucks, maybe SPC will send you a new one.

I used a digital torque wrench. I think it was the latter, as I tried to adjust it while it was still on the car (my first time doing it that way). I used a beefaroni can wedged between the CA and the frame to keep the arm down, and I don't think the wrench stayed flat on the nut. I can't figure out the bottom part though.
