    electric power steering?

Is there any way to swap to electric power steering? without swaping to a K or anything... maybe electric steering on an H? I hate power steering it leaks and hoses bust and pulley robbing the crank sucks as well... I just want to know you guys' thoughts on electric power steering and if it's possible. I don't want to get rid of the power steering all together cuz it's out right now and I hate it.

it is very possible, but very expensive (like 1900+) for a properly designed electric assist kit. what you can do is an electric power steering pump from something like a 2nd gen mr2, mini cooper S, or something else. you can tuck the pump and lines out of the way and make them much shorter to avoid leaks as much as possible.

I think the OP is missing the point. Electric power steering isn't going to get rid of the hydraulic elements of the system; you'll still have all those things you're complaining about, you'll just be eliminating the belt driven pump.

        For reference.

This car has an MR2 electric power steering pump tucked away in behind the bumper cover on the driver side. I can assure the cost of doing this was well below "$1900+", it also functions perfectly and looks a far site better then the conventional pump and lines.

that sucks I thought it eliminated the hydraulics of it.... so are there any major benefits of electric power steering other then the belt pump elimination? and which would y'all prefer if you could choose.

Many cars have electric steering without the hydraulics... It would take a huge effort/money to get it to work in a cb7 though.. A swap to a electric pump would be pretty easy though...

Yeah many newer cars use an electric motor to assist you with steering vs a hydraulic system. Swapping one on a CB would be a waste of time and money though. You might as well fix your current power steering setup.

did you read my post? an aftermarket all-electric conversion with no hydraulics at all. after i said that, i also told him about the option of using an electric pump, and those usually run $200-300.
