How do they adjust camber with spc balljoints?

    or any adjustable ball joints?

I keep trying to picture it but I cant.

On cars lowered 2" or more that have spc/ingalls adjustable upper balljoints installed, how does the alignment tech adjust the camber?

If you have little to no wheel gap how can he get his hands in there to adjust the ball joint?

Does the alignment rack so some type of hyrdo lift on it to lift and lower the frontend of your car while its already on the lift?

This had been floating in my head for awhile and I havent been able to find a answer.

The shop I go to has 2 smaller lifts that slides along the rails of the big lift. So they can raise the back and front on the crossmembers as needed.

yes, on most alignment racks there is a set of arms that can raise the crossmembers under neath the car while its up in the air on the main drive up lift. Adjustments are made, then the car is lowered again.

Check with a shop before they get it up on the rack though. I had to go to three different places before I found anyone who said they could adjust it.

ok, thats what i thought. I never really inspected an alignment rack and ive NEVER seen them use that function even tho Ive watch tons of alignments.

Dean, Give me a call. I'll align the car for you. You'll need to bring the car down south.

the ball joint it normally pressed in, you put the ball joint in from the top of the arm and press it down. It fits into a hole...it does not move. However on spcs the ball joint has a BIG bolt on the top...and these are installed through the bottom of the arm. There are two plates that are installed also, one under the arm and one on top...they fit into the round hole the ball joint was normally pressed into. These plates have a long hole...cut into them that allow the ball joints bolt to slide forward or back. The ball joints bolt goes through both platest.

you have to get those two plates so that the ball joint slides in and out...you can simply turn them and slide the ball joing forward and back.

imagine a circle with a number one in side it..that "1" is the slot the ball joints bolt moves in.

once you get the angle set you put a nut on the bolt and tighten it down.

essentially, the bolt squeezes the ball joint's bolt and the two plates (one on top and one underneath the arm) together. You have to tighten it to 120 foot pounds...make sure you thread the bolt 3-4 turns by hand so you don't cross thread it..the threads are fine.
