CAN you go low AND ride in comfort....?

    --I wanted Form/Func Type 1s.
    About $600.
    Uber low.

Just what i want. But theyre not rebound adjustable.

--The Type 2s are ebound adjustable, but thats an extra $250.

--Ive been informed about the Neuspeed Cup Kit.
    $600.
Drops roughly 2" all the way around.

But ive heard the springs are pretty stiff.

Id prefer Coilovers and Id like to keep things in the same brand names. I dont wanna mix/match.

So my question is, can you ride low and ride in semi or decent comfort?

I know lowering means compromising ride comfort, but id like to compromise as little as possible, but also get down to a 0-1 finger gap.

What kind of luck has everyone had and what setup are you using?

      Yes.

But coilovers are naturally stiff. If stock like smoothness you want, go with a spring/shock combo.
Sprint Extreme and AGX's. Pretty low and smooth.
All in all, nothing beats stock smoothness, so just stay stock and make sure all your bushings are 100%

I dont wanna stay stock, lol. The 55s on my ITRs make my gap even more noticeable.

I dont want to tuck 15s, but id like to go from a 4+ finger gap to maybe a 1-2 finger gap, so whatever i get, they'll have to drop at least 2.25".

im on kyb agx with sprint on 15x6.6 with 205/50 series and i have 2 finger gap all around now due to the agx and tire size. Ride is pretty good and comfy with adjustability so thats a good thing. I want 205/55 tires which would reduce the gap a little more and provide more sidewall for added comfort. Sprint products and agx are always a good combo

no spring and strut combo will give u a finger gap

good thing about the func and forms,
to lower them, u unscrew the lower sleeve, u dont touch the spring rate, so u can be scraping, and still have the same ride comfort

Uhh, sort of. True, the spring rate won't be affected but that doesn't mean that the ride is going to be the same. Different levels of lowering affect the suspension geometry differently. This means that while you have the same spring rate at different heights, you won't necessarily get the same level of comfyness

So far its 2 for Sprints/AGXs.

Like i said, i know lowering will compromise ride somewhat. I just wanna find the best to go as low as id like and still maintain a bit of comfort.

Yea, thats what I'm riding on. The SS system. They're ok to my liking. I prefer a little stiffer ride but they sound right up your alley Kc. From what you described your looking for.

im on Skunk2 coilovers and KYB AGXs...and they seem to ride really good on rough roads, they take decent potholes pretty good...and with the adjustments on the struts they can be set soft or really stiff!

Ive never put them to really soft so Im not sure how they feel...but Ive got them at 6/8 right now...pics of how slammed it is in my MR oh and the coils are spun all the way to the bottom

Well, this dude is kind of right...But not because Tein SS is the best out there..More like...Probably the softest true coilovers out there for our chassis...Not worth the money, but they are soft.

Honestly, I find that true coilovers are far more comfortable than any spring/shock combo out there, no joke...BUT! Having said that, the fact is that ride comfort also depends on what tires you are using..

Example...Run some kind of cheap 'high performance' tires like Nexen, Hankook, Nankang and all that shit, and pair it with sayy...H&R Race and Koni Yellows..You might find that ride comfort is good (still comfortable), and that the tires feel fine. Mount a set of Azenis or A032R on the same H&R and Koni Yellow combo, and you might find that the ride is a lot harsher than before. Might not even be comfortable anymore.

Now let's move on to actual coilovers. D2s, F2, Ksport, Megans, BC Racing, etc. Try running those cheap performance tires with any of those, and you will absolutely hate the ride. It will be harsh, somewhat bouncy, just doesn't feel good all around. Now slap on a set of Azenis or A032R and run them on the same set of coilovers, and you will immediately notice how the ride is actually a lot smoother than the H&R and Koni Yellow combo paired with any tires..

The point I'm trying to make is on the tires. Azenis, A032R, RE-01Rs, Z1, and all those, they have super stiff sidewall. They don't flex. Paired them with true coilovers that are naturally stiff, these tires will allow the suspension to do most of the work during a drive, resulting in a very smooth and comfortable ride. It will feel stiff, but definitely comfortable. Bottom line: Stiff tires let the coilovers absorb all the bumps on the road.

However, you pair a set of shitty tires with true coilovers, you will hate the ride. That is because shitty tires flex and bend, most of them do not have stiff sidewall. So during a drive, any bumps on the road will push the tires and cause them to flex. As a result of this, the tires will absorb most of the impact, and NOT the coilovers. This is when you end up with a harsh and shitty ride.

So it's not all about the suspension. Tires make a HUGE difference in ride comfort and performance. But in my opinion, any true coilovers are better than spring/shock combo. And if you have the money to spend, definitely look into buying a true set of coilovers. I promise you that once you install them on your car, you will never want to go back to spring/shock combo...That is, provided that you run the coilovers with a GOOD set of tires

Hope this helps...But if you do want to go with coilovers, don't go with Tein..With the amount of money the Tein SS go for, you can get MUCH better coilovers for your car. BC Racing, Megans, KSport, D2s, F2s, those are the way to go. BC Racing currently have the biggest piston shock damper (46mm), followed by the Megans and Ksports (44mm)..D2s and F2s are slightly smaller I believe. Usually, the bigger the piston shock damper, the more comfortable the ride is. But I'm not 100% sure on that one.

Hope this helps you in making your decision!
