OK, the stock 'struts' are in fact 'coilovers. All this means is a spring and damper that are packeaged as a self contained unit that can be be taken off the car without disassembling the spring from the damper.
The term 'coilover' has lazily come to imply a non OE spring / damper unit that features more adjustments than the stock coilover, and for some people means non OE adjustable spring seats that may fit onto OE dampers. There is some implication that 'coilover' implies an infinitely adjustable ride height, but all this really means is a coilover that has an infinitely adjustable ride height as one of the adjustments.
Equally, any aftermarket damper that uses the OE spring or a non OE spring but may not have infinitely adjustable ride height is also a coilover, though some people will wrongly think of this as a 'spring / damper combo' and not as a coilover.Regards from Oz,
John.
