Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    f22 rebuild

when exactly do you want to rebuild an f22. as of right now at this very moment my motor has 250,927 miles on it and i think i NEED to rebuild a f22 block before i try to turbo it. and also where can i find a f22 block for cheap and parts not necessarily expense either but well built??

My F22a4 motor in my 90 EX has 257,000 miles, so I can relate. Because of the mileage and depending on how many miles you've had it (ie. how you took care of it, etc) makes a difference.

Regardless, I'd go to a junkyard or if you find a deal through someone on here. Personally any F22a1/a4 or a6 will do...there is no significant difference between them all that can not easily be overcome. Crap I have a F22a1 I'm building from...the base engine is exactly the same....so don't be bothered by which to choose from. Look for an engine with low mileage (ie. 150K or lower) WITH the transaxle you want....automatic or manual. It'd be easier to go with the transaxle you have now....but if you want to change it over (maybe look into just buying a car with lower mileage with trans combo you want would be cheaper). I do not know your situation but I'm giving you options here.

For F22s all bolt-ons are readily available, however it's the engine internals that are not. It's growing a bit more now, but you won't find many off the shelf options in terms of pistons/rings, rods, valvetrain & camshaft regrinds are available, but not billet cams. There are some out there though....it's just a matter of research & hopefully something works out for ya.

Just FYI....my F22a1 has 110K miles and it's in great shape...so that's why I said you could prolly find one 150K or less in same shape or better. Less bore work if cyl walls in good shape...we have 3 mm thick cyl walls we can play with unless you sleeve.

      thanks

man you just dont know how much i thank you for that. now i see the best thing to do is to get another block and rebuild from the bottom up. so should i shoot for the best parts all motor or best parts for a turbo application. I want to go turbo because i had a boosted vr6 passat and i fell in love but on the other hand i heard that all motor cars produce a bunch of horses too. so which would you go for in my shoes. and how much do you think all motor would produce. i dont have alot of money but i can budget iight.

rebuilt block either for turbo, N/A, or nitrous about $1800-2000
Headwork for Forced Induction or N/A (they are different) $1300-1600
        Clutch - $250 -$300
Corresponding gaskets and maintenance parts $400
Engine management and fuel management $500-$1600

the list keeps going man...but if u have a block on the side and build it as you continue to do your daily driving you can accomplish this in a decent amount of time. I'd put a little away here and there buy the block and start modding that first. If money gets tight then you've always got ppl here that will buy a performance block. Good luck and study study study. Decide what you want and go into it head first

I'm on a budget like you & my advice is patience. Realize that you will not finish your project in the time you'd wish & just work with in a logical order & you'll slowly get things rolling, then before you know it ..it'll come around to tuning it in, breakin it in & fun fun fun fun fun.

Like Midnight said, choose your route/goal and stick to it. Then, research research and get a plan going on how you can attack this project & what logical order...this whole time you should be saving $$$ (may have to sacrifice wasting your money on other things). If you have specific questions, first try & make effort to find out something on your own..if ya get no where then ask here, but you'll realize alot of questions you can best answer yourself with enough research.
